The rears are a little alike, especially with the short chrome strip (on those cars that have one).

Wait, I just noticed they both have 4 road wheels, too.

 

Personally I prefer the styling of the Rover75 to the S-type. Whilst the 75 is unashamedly retro styled, it has aged better than the S-type. This is probably because the 75 isn't trying to look like something else (the S-type is trying too hard to look like the original mk1/2/S-type)

 

Whereas I detest the Rover 75. Just personal taste for each of us...

 

Indeed, I also wouldn't have a Rover as a gift. Now there really is an old man's car.

I love the looks of the S-Type. I don't think it's trying to look like the old Mk2/S-Type. It's referencing some styling cues but not to the point of imitation. And it certainly looks distinctive. You can't say that about the German makes. An A4 looks like an A6 looks like any other Audi. Beemers even more so.

 

I wish one of my bikes looked like a Ducat 750GT..

 

Reviving this thread, because I'm wondering what I'm supposed to do with my 2000 3.0 S-Type with 141k miles on it that I want to replace with a newer car?
Dealer trade in won't offer me squat. Is there a market for these cars on craigslist? Would someone actually buy it?

 

yes. You can sell it. Don't expect to get a lot. With Jags, its a 2 edge sword. One of the reasons I like them is the fact that you can get a lot of car for the money because they do not have good resale value. The downside is when you go to sell them, they do not have good resale value. If you bought it for a good price, that may help offset the lesser amount that you end up selling it for...

 

Thats exactly why my father in law gave me his. He leased a new Ford Fusion, and he knew the dealer wouldn't give him
anything for his '03 S Type. It was already in at least one accident according to Carfax, and its in "decent" shape, so instead he gave it to my wife & I! I checked online,('03 S Type, 3.0, 77k miles),its probably worth about $2,000 US . Good luck with your sale/trade.

 

Stick it on eBay and/or the classifieds here. Someone somewhere will appreciate it's beauty and value. Be patient.

 

You know, I listed the car on craigslist, and just listing out all the features the car has, I amazed myself. The S-Type was very ahead of its time in features and technology.
It still turns heads and gets way more attention than any BMW/Mercedes/Audi. I love this car and would keep it if only it worked well in the snow. My new job mandates that I be able to drive, no matter the weather conditions so I have to let the old girl go

 

I'm in north Jersey. I ran my '06 Mustang GT all through last winter, which was a rough one. This year, I plan on running my S Type through this coming winter. I think you should be okay.

 

Why not get a spare set of wheels with winter/snow tyres on?

 

I generally love the jaguars. It has this aura of style and retro, yet modern look that no german make car has. As for the value- here in Europe there are many Mercs, BMWs, Jaguars and other premium vehicles that you can acquire for a reasonable price. But the great problem here is the maintanence. Parts are expensive and when something goes wrong you can understand why these cars are a "premium".

 

Because if there's 1 foot of snow on the ground, I still need to get to work. Not even the fanciest snow tires can overcome those limits with RWD. I'm a floating pharmacist, which means I cover other people's shifts. Be it vacation, sickness, or weather, it's my job to get to work when no one else can.
I have a great set of all season Michelin tires on the car, and the car is pretty much useless. It's gotten stuck many times with very little snow. I'd rather not skid all the way to work, even though that does sound like fun.

And even if I got a good set of snow tires and they worked well, I would be slowed down to a crawl. That's not fun or efficient

 

All season aren't much use in snow. A foot of snow is going to stop pretty much any saloon or the like as they don't have much more (if any) clearance than that!

 

If you run a dedicated winter tire like a Blizzak you will be amazed at the difference!!

The improvement over so-called winter/snow tires is huge. On snow/Ice or just general cold weather.

A foot of snow is going to stop anything short of a Chelsea tractor, and even they would be slowed down to a crawl.
I have a set of winter wheels on my old MX5 and the difference has to be seen to be believed.

Still think its a great looking motor. Just lifted my Daughter from school and as the kids of various ages went past they many remarked on the car, mostly the girls!

I live in Orange County, Southern California and the roads are crawling with BMWs and Mercedes. Sure those are considered nice cars but in my opinion nothing special at all because there so very commonplace. The S Type is a very classy and unique car. Mine is 10 years old and doesn't look dated. I'm glad they are uncommon compared to other luxery cars.
