Default S-Type Service Manuals?

We have a 2005 S-Type 3.0. Before the factory warranty runs out in mid-July I'd like to find a reasonably-priced copy of the service manual specific to our car. I don't want to pay hundreds of dollars to the dealership for a copy. I've been unable to find one from the usual sources such as Haynes or Chiltons. Anyone out there found one somewhere?

I wonder how accurate and comprehensive the Alldata on-line subscriptions are. Anyone used Alldata before and if so, what is your opinion of its value? Call me old-fashioned but I would prefer a hard-copy manual that I can drag underneath the car with me when needed. Nothing bogs me down when working on a car like having to stop what I'm doing, wipe my hands, wash up thoroughly, make sure I'm not tracking anything into the house, and fire up the computer in order to read more about what it is I'm trying to fix. Sometimes a book beats a computer and in this case I'd rather have a book....

Alldata or the JTIS are your only choices. You can print the pages for the current project before preceding to the garage.

Hi Jon,

I downloaded the JTIS application. Even though it only goes up to 2003, I found I can use the great majority of it for my S-Type. Making printouts is somewhat of a pain because of the design of the application, but it can be done. I've also gone directly into the directories (a rather tedious process which I probably couldn't repeat) and printed out the associated .pdf files.

Regarding Alldata, you'll have to rely on Ken's professional judgement on that one.

Good luck,

Mike

Thanks for the input thus far. I really prefer a 2005-specific manual so I've ruled the tedious JTIS option out. Anyone know if Alldata offers 2005-specific info or does it also top out at 2003? Guess I'll contact them and see what they have to say....

I have the JTIS manual as well, but mine goes to 2004. I got it off of Ebay for less than 10 bucks. So far it has been dead on.

What format did your JTIS manual bought off Ebay come in? Hard copy? CD? Papyrus scroll?

I guess I have the older version of the JTIS - if someone is willing to upload or send me a copy - I can host that for everyone? Just a thought!

Jon I used alldata for my valve cover gaskets and the oil pan gasket replacements. I have used alldata for a number of vehicles that I have owned and or have repaired for someone else. I find it to be VERY accurate!!! I know its a pain to wipe and type but for $25.00 bucks or so go for it. Hows the car behaving?

Sorry for the late response, I didn't get the thread update...

Tell me what operating system you have and if its on cd or already on your hard drive. Also let me know if you can zip the files or need instructions for that...

Thanks man!

Christo

I run Windows XP. I have it installed and have a CD. I'm pretty sure I can zip it. I'll try. PM me with where you'd like me to send it.

Not a problem.
