Default S-Type surges from 500 to 1200 rpm

Just purchased a very clean 2000 s-type with 51,000 miles. Car runs great with 1 exception. When idling, it surges from 500-1200 rpm. When in gear (D or R) it is ironically like a cat pouncing. Looks like there was a throttle body replacement by previous owner. Does this point to needing a new tps, throttle body or something else. Also, I got a gearbox fault warning 1 time last week, but the car did not run any differently and has not come back on since. Thanks in advance for the help. Great forum.

Do you recommend changing coil springs while in there?
