Default Sell or not to sell

We're toying with the idea of selling the S-type

We love the car and it is absolutely immaculate and the radiance red always gets compliments everywhere we go. It's never let us down and has full Jaguar service history.
HOWEVER!!!! It has just run out of warranty and although it has seriously low miles I like the reassurance of my wife driving a car with warranty. (I spend more time overseas than at home so this is pretty important.)

If we sell, and if we can find one, we would like an 07 or 08 4.2 or R (Jaguar certified PO), I prefer the R for obvious reasons. But we do plan on getting another Jaguar in a year or two (XKR) so have been toying with a cheaper runner for now. e.g. Ford Fusion or Fiesta.

Any input would be appreciated as it would be a sad day to sell the S-type but we have to be sure my wife is OK on her 5am drives to work.

BTW: any other car suggestions would be great but we only buy British or American.

As another option you could look into purchasing a 3rd Party warranty for your current car. When I bought my 06 STR last year it had only a couple of weeks of factory warranty left, so I opted for an aftermarket warranty that takes me to July 2015 or 100K.

+1 on the Aftermarket Warranty if you need the confort of it. 10 years, 100K, $10k for my wifes car was about a grand. Got me a new tranny, and 2 window motors out of it so far.

My opinion - you'll probably spend less just fixing the current car if something does break than you would going through the purchase process again for something newer. There is something to be said for "knowing what you already have" - you know the history of the vehicle you already own.

Honestly I believe this is the first time I have seen someone cross shopping and S-Type R with a Fiesta!!

id just keep yours now. i know how it is to have a warranty and for a car youre keeping long term its nice to have one for a little bit upfront to nit pick and make sure its 100% given that youre a car guy and on here i take it yours has been gone over and is 100%

while its not the best to have a car sitting i highly doubt anything will go wrong with it that justifies you selling that one and buying a newer one.

im guessing youre comfortable financially so the most i see happening is a few hundred dollars here or there.

just keep it!

thanks guys.

After much talk with the wife (and MIL) we have opted to keep it for now with no warranty. I am pretty handy with cars and can fix the odd minor issue if need be, but right now it is 100% and if I keep up with the maintenance I am confident it will remain trouble free.

Then in one year:
The plan will be to get an XF or small suv or Sport Wagon (if such a thing exists), an XKR convertible and a Mustang for me to play with selling both our current cars. (V8 Sport Trac and S-type). The Mustang may come sooner as I want to build a fun car for track days etc.

Default Jaguar Extra Mile

I just purchased the Jaguar Extra Mile from my Jag dealer for my STR for an extra 36mo/36k miles for about 40% less than the same Easy Care Warranty. When I received the warranty, I found that it is also administered by Easy Care (as the Jag new car warranty also is).
Great deal - look into it.

I'd also keep it, my car has 70k and runs perfectly. It has only needed maintenance items since I bought it. I'd never buy an extended warranty, on anything. For every 1 person you hear about using it, there are dozens that pissed away that money.
