S-Type members,

Last week, I traded in my beloved factory mint 2007 S-Type (3.0) for a an XJ -- I simply couldn't pass up on the offer to get my dream car.

If your interested, the S-Type is Winter Gold with Tan leather// Mocha piping and will soon be posted by "The Toy Barn" in Ohio. Check their website soon as I am sure they will be posting pictures.

The S-Type was not my daily driver but a true garage queen, stored in a climate controlled garage with Jaguar Car Cover. The original Monroney Window Sticker is included and framed in wood, as well as owners manual in a new brown leather binder.

Over the past 2 years, I purchased various Jaguar OEM Accessories as well as brand new leather seating surfaces for front seats as backup, ALL STILL IN THEIR ORIGINAL CARTONS - not yet installed. The plan was to enter my car at Jaguar events.

A list of Jaguar OEM Accessories (with purchase receipts) in their boxes that is with the S-Type is as follows:

I called up the dealership to inquire as to the asking price, but they were closed. Its not even 8pm yet and they are closed?

Oh well, its not like I could bring it into California anyway.

 

They are asking $23,883 according to the link . It looks pretty flawless, but someone would really want to have the 3.0 or use the car for shows as the OP mentioned to pay that price.

 

Is it me or is there a panel missing at the bottom of the rear bumper between the two exhaust pipes?

 

Looking at the pic prior to that one....I've almost convinced myself that it is there but it is black. No direct light on it in any of the shots so indeterminate in the very end.

 

The price was 0 in the ad when I called.
Anyway, Kelly Blue Book says the private party price is $16.3k, the retail price is $18.4k, and the Certified Pre-Owned is $19.9k

If I were to buy it, I would offer $15k and see what happens. Maybe nothing, maybe I get cussed out, maybe they counter at $23,800.

Its not like they had to prep the car or make any repairs. Oh, I'm sorry, they did put saran wrap where the floor mats were. :rolls-eyes

 

The panel is there and it is black in color.

 

I hate to be a debbie downer but I'd be terrified of all the potential dry rot in the hoses with that low a mileage.

 

Mine, a 2005, had 14K on it 2.5 years ago when I bought it. No rubber issues at all.

I wouldn't worry about that.

 

I can't imagine thinking of a 2007 car as being 'old' with any 'old car issues'. I have an early 70s Corvette as a summer fun car which is still thought as being new by many guys in that hobby.

Not sure why low mileage would cause dry rot in any case.

 

Hoses and seals, rubber in general, gets brittle with disuse.

 

Actually no. Rubber becomes brittle with time, exposure to ozone and especially UV. Use/disuse has little or no effect. Seals leak either because they would have anyway, or because they 'stick' to the shaft they're sealing which has become corroded from moisture. Rubber stored under average conditions has an extraordinarily long life.

Improperly stored vehicles (not applicable in the OP's case) is a whole science of it's own.

 

Actually IMHO Hoses and seals and rubber in general gets brittle with USE,
especially on Jags as most of us have found out...lol

 

Are you implying that if the car had 50k miles, instead of 7k miles, it would not have any rubber problems?
Because it would have been driven regularly?

I do not think the car would have lasted long at the Toy Barn. That is why I bought it before the photos were posted. We resided in Hong Kong for 14 years and I think I had one of the last daily use restored MGB-GT's there in 1987. Ever since I have wanted to return to the joy of British motoring - not to imply that an MGB is in the same class of course. Mileage will be maintained very low and I have no intention of exposing her to the elements. The drive to Lexington was uneventful and I do not anticipate any dry rot issues. The car is as new. Thanks for taking such good care.

I am glad the S-Type went to a good home. Take care of her. She's probably one of the cleanest, lowest mileage 2007 Jag on the road. Did you get all of the goodies that came with it including the original window sticker?

Also curious to know if you kept the copper// gold coach-lines. I purchased those from Jaguar Classic Parts and had installed.

By the way, I love Hong Kong. My current job used to take me there quite a bit -- Hong Kong island and Kowloon Bay. used to stay at the Sheraton right next door to the Peninsula. On weekdays we'd go into Shenzhen and Guang Dong district and then on weekends back to H.K.

The only items I did get was the operators manual in the leather case and the original window sticker. I was led to believe that the items coming with the car were all take off items that had been replaced with new so I did not bother to ask. Question, what oil did you use on the last change? I never got confirmation that oil was changed at the dealer or, if so, what they put in. The twin coach lines really compliment the body. Sure is a nice set of Cooper Tires. I didn't get any paperwork on them, dealer was trying to sell tire and wheel warranty which I declined so not sure if the Cooper warranty still applies. As a side, I began my career in your neighborhood. I moved from Arizona into Coloma, MI with my '69 VW and '33 Chev and worked at the Clark Construction Machinery plant at I-94 and Pipestone for 4 years prior to the transfer to HK. I still have the '33 Chev. Perhaps next employee reunion up there I could get to see your car.

Hi Tom,

I believe the Barn provides the Warranty and full inspection including check of oil and fluid levels. Not sure if this meant oil change at the time of your delivery. Can't remember if I used Shell or Mobile. Glad you like the car. The original factory Pirelli spare tire as well as toolkit should still be in the trunk under the floor mat.

Coloma is right down the street from where I live. Feel free to let me know next time your in the area and I can show you the Jag. It's kept in the same climate controlled garage as your Gold S-Type used to be.
