servicing records
How important is it to keep the service record stamped by authorized garages!
I have a 2002 3ltr auto 59k that has always been serviced by Jag garages since new and it is coming up to the 60k service.
I have a 1995 960 Volvo estate that I have serviced myself since 80k (it now has 190k on the clock) and has been minimal trouble during that time.
I get both cars diagnostically checked annually with the appropriate software but I keep an eye on things with a Geniscan 100 code reader which reads generic codes on both cars) and I don't see the car being sold in the near future.
I suppose the question is whether there is value on spending the money on the service to maintain the value in the car
What do you think?
Thanks
Cully

I've self-serviced the majority of our vehicle maintenance and repairs for more than 35 years. Whenever I do any work on any vehicle, I write up a ticket showing the date, the mileage, and what I did. I staple any parts receipts to my ticket and include any research I did to identify and source the parts. Then I sign at the bottom and drop the ticket in chronological order into the manilla folder I keep for the appropriate vehicle. When the time comes to sell that vehicle, I have a meticulous set of records of everything I've done to it and I spread these records out on my kitchen table to show the prospective buyer. That never fails to impress the buyer and I usually manage to sell the vehicle to the first guy who rings my doorbell in response to my ad....

Sadly a 2002 has little value in the UK anyway, even though they're nice cars, so I think it doesn't really matter. I'm with Jon89 that paperwork is great. You could get an inkpad and get a stamp similar to what a dealer has with your name on it if you like to stamp the book - don't laugh, at least 1 guy on the UK forum posted that he does that.
I plan not to sell my car so no stamp for me. I try to look after the car simply so it is less likely to strand me.

Thanks for the response
I know that it's value is negligible but the car is near showroom condition apart from it's age and it was just a question that I wanted somebody else to answer for me.
Thanks again
