Smile It is simply astonishing.

The more I drive my 3.0 S-type, the bigger the "Cheshire-cat" smile spreads across my face! This automobile is so addictive that I find myself making excuses to take it on the road.
  1. It is quick.
  2. It is responsive.
  3. If I floor the accelerator, I'm gone!
  4. It is less costly at the petrol pump than other vehicles in its class.
  5. It is fun to drive!
  6. There's enough space in the vehicle to accommodate at least four friends.
What more can one ask?

Probably more than half the miles I've put on my S-Type 4.0 are just because I just enjoy driving it. Woke up very early today and took an hour long drive just because I can

I would agree with everything but 4 and 6. Premium gas is close to US3.50/Gallon and in town with the AC on the mileage isn't that great. She acts up if I try anything else. The La Crosse is almost as quick up to 80MPH or so and runs fine on E-15 with better overall mileage. The downside is the Buick does NOT feel like or handle nearly as well. Even at twice the Buick's age she still feels much more solid, front end is getting a tad "loose" but I have a front-end going over and new tires planned before winter.

Getting 5 adults in my S-Type would make for a crowded back seat since I need mine all the way back. Even 4 would be pushing it unless one of them was a Dwarf.

What more could I ask?
FWD or AWD because there's snow and ice on the streets here several months out of the year. When you have 3 1/2" of ground clearance 6" of snow can be a big problem. I nearly traded her in for a 2008 X-type Estate with about the same mileage and AWD. It just didn't "feel" right when I drove it.The best snow car I've ever owned was a '97 Continental with FWD (Miss Piggy). With good tires a foot of snow barely slowed her down.

Overall the S-Type is the best car I've ever owned.and I hope to keep driving her for many more years.

I live about 15 miles Northwest of Portland, OR (about 59 miles from the end of US Highway 26) so snow isn't usually a large factor in this part of the country. I misspoke when I said five people would fit well. Four, including myself, would be the comfortable limit. AWD is nice but tends to consume more fuel than it is worth. I am a "solo act" and have no family (all dead and gone). The only person I have to answer to is myself. (There's plenty of room for me). I'm 66-years-old and am not likely to increase the size of my family.

Did you say you were dating a dwarf?

Default Fuel price?

@SDCentaur
This is way I like global forums like Jaguarforum(s).com and for example the Triumph Trophy motor forum.

I live in Europe, The Netherlands.
you wrote about the fuel price: 3.50 USD per US Gallon.
Yesterday i filled up my STR at a ghost station; no personal, no service.
If you go to a highway gasstation, prices are + 10-15%! And always no help/self service.

I payed € 1.89 per liter = 2.25 $.
a gallon = 3.785 liters, so that is $ 8,50 / US gallon.

I think you must be the happiest petrol heads ever.

Captain O: Do you actually say "petrol" in northwest Oregon...? (Must a fringe Portlandia effect)

Other than the above I have to pretty much agree with your points. On #4, if I am just driving around town, the fuel economy on my 3 litre is not impressive; but, then again, I tend to put my foot into it because I enjoy the feel and sound of the V-6 picking up the revs...

In Montana, if I said "Jag-u-war" people would think I am being a bit pedantic for a "petrol-head".

USNavy

I used to broadcast out of Miles City (KYUS-TV Channel 3) back in the late 1970s. I use(d) the term petrol to make out members across the pond feel at home. I am an old Vietnam-era Veteran (US Navy, Aviation Machinist's Mate, Jet)..On the highway, the mileage isn't bad. In the city, it is an entirely different matter.

I'm a crusty old codger without any "Portlandia" effect at all.

@Jaapvanthoff

Out of curiosity I looked up the gasoline tax rate in the Netherlands, US$3.53 which is a bit more than the current total price here. Between Federal and State taxes I only pay US$ 0.30/gallon (South Dakota) Being a net exporter of petroleum also keeps US prices down.

During the Covid fuss it dropped to $2.10/Gallon at one point. I think I got a little spoiled.

Other than one occasion only groceries and cats going to the Vet have ridden in the back seat. I'm 61 so we're not likely to be spawning any offspring either.

In South Dakota FWD is almost a necessity and AWD is best. For may years I've driven overpowered RWD cars without major problems but I'm getting a bit old to be drifting intersections in traffic. My reflexes are not what they used to be. Sioux Falls traffic is not nearly as bad as Portland but add snow and a few Idiots it gets pretty interesting. I used to live in Seattle and an island north of Olympia, loved not having to deal with snow.

Talking

SDCentaur asked,

My wife is 5' 1" does that count? (As a dwarf)?

To this, I'll respond "only if the other six dwarves will sign statements attesting to this fact".
