Exclamation So many error codes have a bought a dud?

Hi Guys,

I have just bought my first jaguar and I am so in love with it I really don't think I will be turning back to any other car.
I have an S Type 2003 automatic 2.5 petrol.

I am getting intermittent abs warning light (DSC not available) after deciding the dealer is likely to fob me off until my warranty runs out I bought a icarsoft i930.
I uploaded the latest software onto it today and I am getting all of the following fault codes.

Have I bought a ******* and should I take it back and ask for a refund. Only problem is I really love this car.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance guys

A lot of those might be old (unless you've cleared them and they all came back) and a fair few due to a low / flat / dead battery.

If the battery isn't fairly new or isn't fully charged you commonly get false codes. Battery is #1 suspect.

You have so many codes and so varied that I can't see them all being true.

But do be aware that mostly they stay in modules forever unless someone forces a clear (and most tools don't even read the modules other than PCM - above called ECM) .

You could do with the codes from the PCM (expect a pending P1111) and also check the fuel trims.

A lot of people like to note codes, then if they're old clear them and see which if any come back, in what order and how soon.

The full workshop manual with codes PDFs is a free download. Just the codes PDF for the PCM is a good place to start and in your case maybe the ABS one (they're in the Chassis - C codes - one). The codes PDFs are (or at least some are) on www.jagrepair.com as well as on here.

Thanks jagv8,

The only problem is with clearing the fault codes is that I have bought from a dealer and it's still within my 30 days warranty.
If I clear the codes it might put me in a weaker position taking it back. Some codes might be an issue but don't return in time for me to return the car.

The car seems to work and I tried to test the abs and that seems to work as well I haven't managed to test it when the warning light is present.

Maybe I should take back to the dealer with all the codes, put it in writing and if it does come back after my 30 days atleast I can prove they were there before.

Thanks again guys I will research the abs fault, this is the one that's worrying me the most.

I'd be concerned about the PCM (aka ECM) since things such as fuel trims (& codes) say how it's running. Suppose the trims are out then you can expect (even with no codes) cat conv damage in time and they're not cheap.

In general terms this is true for any modernish (about 1995-on) car (using petrol, the diesels have another set of issues).

If you're in England/Wales i.e. "English" law applies then you can ask them to repair what's wrong at their cost or reject the car - but the sooner the better and before 6 months or it gets tough.
