The steering makes a high pitched screeching noise sometimes when I reverse in full lock. I noticed the steering fluid is below the min line. Could this be the reason? What time of fluid can I use to top it up? I see on other threads that Dextron III is used for 2002 models or later. Can I use this on a 2001 model?

At this late date and the fact that it looks like no maintenance has been done. I would change and flush the P/S fluid. I have worked on many cars that the P/S fluid was black and chunky.

What does your fluid look like? Dab a small bit onto a white paper towel.
