Default STR Coolant Expansion Tank Replacement

I discovered a small coolant leak when I had my transmission serviced a month ago when the car was on the hoist. I finally located the leak coming from the bottom of the tank at the sensor/tank holy union.

Here are my questions.

How does one disconnect the electrical connection on the sensor - is it a twist, a click or divine intervention? Don't want to break the sucker. What refill process should I follow after replacement?

Any other tips would be most appreciated as I'm easily distracted by squirrels, mind altering substances and American politics.

Thank you in advance of your assistance in this matter...

Sensor twists out 1/4 turn. The electrical connector has a little tab you lift and then pull. Are you sure the sensor isn't just loose? I've never seen one fail there, it's usually at the top nipple or at the seam where the black plastic meets the clear.

The clip that's a pain is the one that's at the bottom of the tank, you'll feel it "click" and then you can pull the tank up and out.

Take care,

George

When I did mine, there wasn't enough coolant lost to really worry about bleeding it and it was fine.

The sensor is not loose and is in the right position. The leak is coming from the union of the sensor and the outlet. Perhaps a hairline crack which weeps down the sensor vertical shaft and drips of the electrical connector.

Sounds almost pornographic...

Isn't it a different tank on the STR vs the 3.0 George?

I had my tank replaced a couple months ago by the dealer under warranty. It had a hairline crack at the supercharger IC fitting. I think it's all fixed now though.

Tanks are different but built with the same crappy materials so they all fail. The only real difference is the capacity and the STR has the extra outlet for the superchanger circuit. I've replaced mine fore the same thing as you Staatsof and replaced another members 3.0 tanks for a crack. I would make sure its not the rubber seal on the sensor just in case but a tank is about 120-150 and very easy to replace yourself. It will come with a new sensor so you dont have to worry if you break your old one. The sensor plug will be similiar to this one so you should be able to reach down there and feel for the tab that you have to lift a little to unplug it then its just a matter of twisting to pull it out.
