Default STR guys, I need your opinion

Ok guys, I am not in the market for one but my buddy Chris is. The below is one we found on Saturday at Scott Jaguar, please help Decide if this STR is priced right.

DIRECT LINK: http://www.scottjag.com/used-invento...WA03C961N60004

2006, 30,800 miles, Silver/Black

Originally purchased in Mi. (spent 1 and half years there), sold at auction to Scott Jaguar (4and a half years ago). Where the 2nd owner just traded it in.

Every option including adaptive cruise and NAV. This vehicle is immaculate in and out. I do mean clean!!! 100% stock. Remainder of Select Edition until Dec. this year. Drives like new.

Asking price $23,900.00 KBB is at $28,000.00
Chris got them to $23,000 OTD (with possible trade)

What do YOU experts think? I know you guys will be honest!

And yes Chris is talking Mafioso intake and exhaust etc.... Lets get him a vehicle first !

Sounds fairly reasonable to me. I think there is still a little meat on the bone to be had though $900 bucks off the asking price isn't really playing ball IMHO.

As a comparison, my 2003 STR with about 23k miles on it cost me less than $18k.

3 years newer, plus a warranty, but 6k more miles....would that be worth $5k? Perhaps.

The site is still down...must be maintenance time.

Chris thanks for ^^^^, Joyce and I were just talking, she knows that I am a good at finding vehicles for the right price. Joyce asked "if we were to be interested in the Scott STR, would we buy it". I responded "I am on the fence".

Scott Jaguar has put a "hold" on it for Chris good until tomorrow night.

This vehicle is so damn clean its unbelievable that it has 31k on it. It truly looks as if it just rolled off the factory floor. Its just not the wash job either.

As a comparison:

I got mine about a year ago. It had the warranty. It does not have the adaptive cruise, phone or bluetooth. It sounds like it's in about similar condition except that I had slight curb rash on 3 wheels. Mine had 14K miles. Same deal with 2 owners one who put only 3K miles on it. I paid $21K. It does have the Brembos though.

At that time a 2006 in similar condition some with all the goodies was about $24-26K if you shopped right.

I think you can do even better on the price but it may take a while.

www.scottjag.com has been down so I can't post up the direct link.

I will check Scotts Jaguar site through out the day and post up link, or you guys can check on your puter, its the only '06 STR Scott has in their inventory.

Same here as a comparison, just about a year ago I purchased a one owner 2004 STR with 52,000 miles for $11,200 [private owner] it needed tires all around and it had some small scrapes on the bumper cover, which I had fixed for $400. I thought I fell into a fantastic deal. So far I have had no problems, and have done the normal brakes all around and the fluid change on the transmission because of the leaking O-ring, and of course the performance mods myself 3lb pulley and the high flow cats. Over priced!! I would pay $19K-$20K no more. Please check the completed auctions on Ebay. You will see they do not sell well at all.

Rick,

First of all the STR is a rare beast. Secondly, it's difficult if not impossible to find one in mint condition, low miles, clean history and unmolested. Thirdly, from your description it's loaded and the buyer likes the color combination. Given that you can spend a small fortune on a high mileage STR nothing beats starting out with a near perfect low mileage local car.

I always and will continue to expect to pay a premium for a low mileage and serviced car STR or otherwise. If the dealer stays firm on the price then have him completely service the car from top to bottom as part of the deal.

Buy it...

I would have them put it in the air and check the undercarriage rust. With it being up north thats something I would want to check. The pics show one of the calipers that looks like it has some rust buildup on it unless its just a bad angle. I had an 03 Mercury that I had in Michigan and it started rusting in 2009. They wouldnt fix it either cause the corrosion warranty stated it had to be rusted through meaning I needed to have a huge hole through my door. Just something else to check on if thats good then it does look very clean. Wish my front bumper was that perfect.

Edit: Pic 28 is the one I'm refering too.

Chris, I did have a looksie all over the underneath -zero- rust. You are correct the calipers do have some light rust on them but not bad. The rotors are also rust filmed from not being driven in awhile, but they cleaned up after our test drive.

Link now works!

Looks nice, but it's 6 years old now. I'd be a buyer around $21-22.

Sounds like the car is really clean then. If its just the caliper he can sand them down then G2 them yellow and it would look HOT.

Not bad, but see if you can hammer them down a little more. That car looks mint. Maybe you could tell them throw in an additional extended warranty from Continental warranty. That should be about $2500.

I agree with the warranty, have them add it at no extra charge with no deductible..

You can get a fairly low mileage $100k (new) 06 XKR for 20K. Though she's a beaut. she should sell for no more than $18k...with a warranty.

Someone recently posted that part of his deal was "parts at cost" from the dealer. The sales department loses nothing on that one.

If the car is that good, is is worth having to look for another one over $xxxx in differential?

Experienced hobbyists know that it is far better to stretch to buy the best than to buy a basket case and hope to fix it on the cheap. Cheap somehow never works out to be cheap once all the bills are in.

Of course, you still have to be hard hearted and be prepared to walk. It just helps to find a creative way for the sales department to create the value you desire.(the parts deal, free mats, 30k and 60k service).

hi
i think it is pretty decent price , and coming from jaguar dealer , u can expect no hidden damage ,
i got Stype r at 4000$ les than book value , needed transmission service and rims straightened , got a quote 400$ per wheel for repair and chrome , 700$ for new oil pan and oil , and few other things ,

end of story , i wud have payed 4000$ more if i got a deal like that ,
its worth the extra money especially if ur not gud DIY ,
i wud say go for it , very nice STR
