Default STR Oil Cooler Hose Seeping Oil?

I have a 2005 STR and have been watching the transmission cooler line threads with interest. I have had my car for over 2 years and while under factory warranty I noticed some very small oil drips on the under-body pan.

The dealer did note the oil but could not find the source at that time. I have since driven 35K miles or so with no change. I did remove the under-body pan and using spray solvent cleaned the transmission and oil cooler hoses up. I now find a small drip of oil on one of the rubber to metal transitions in the hose. BUT it's the oil cooler hose on the drivers side and NOT the transmission lines?

Anybody seen this? Both hoses are very close together and I really thought it was the transmission lines until I cleaned things up good. I have attached a picture of the seeping hose. It's number 8 in the diagram. The EPC lists the price at $144 but hopefully that's too much. The EPC seems to have VERY high prices!! A STR long block is listed at $25K!!!

I actually just saw my lines yesterday while going through all my ordeals. One of the lines on mine has a class 2 seep. I use this chart to classify anything I see if I'm not losing fluid I dont worry about it. Things will seep with time. I only worry about fixing when I'm actually forming droplets that would cause fluid to be lost. I change my oil every 5000 miles and have not had to put any in so I just consider it seep. If you check your oil and you are losing some then I would probably look at replacing it. If its not losing any I would just leave it and just attribute it to seepage but keep an eye on it cause it could eventually go up in class and then you will have to replace it but that could take a few months or could take many years. We used this chart when I was in the military and I would see class 2 leaks all the time that didnt lose any fluid and never touched them and they were like that for years.

Are you talking about where the two transmission lines meet at the rubber? Its very common to see that area damp somewhat wet and all greasy. There's a lot of incidences well documented here in threads somewhere. Mine is somewhat damp, but considering its a 03' its normal long as its not seeping a lot, Vances chart is very helpful in de-terming the degree level.

Good Luck.

Thanks for the thread. I am a bit unsure what costs what? The transmission lines are $150 (each or for the pair) and the Oil cooler lines are about $52 each? I will check with Nalley this week.

I like your leak chart and have not seen it before. I guess you are right. It's only seeped this long (66K miles). Maybe I will leave it be but I like to have everything repaired if possible. A $50 hose I will change anytime. A $150 hose I will be slower to do.

Default tranny oil change

I started reading tranny threads and wondered if you can change tranny fluid by use of tranny cooling lines and let tranny pump in new fluid & out with old instead of new pan ,gasket and etc
2000 s Type 108000 mls 3.0 BRG

Might be worth not putting that in a thread about oil lines, on a car which in any case uses a different tranny entirely
(Plus, it's been discussed before.)

No worries. Just start your own thread or read about your tranny. Yes, it's a Ford 5R55N. Some really good threads incl FAQs on it. Cheap to DIY.
