I've came across a very good body shop thats giving me a pretty much free paint job (given dude about 10 collision customers). anyways he saw my car the other day and asked if i wanted to change up the color. Currently is black, in decent shape, but does have a lot of those little white spots. In thinking about it, i LOVE the look of a flat matte black paint job, but dont know how i'll feel about it driving it everyday. Another idea was a dark dark brown......any ideas

I have seen some beautiful Jaguars in a very dark-dark maroon color. The royal wedding I watched portions of today featured some nice old-school Bentley's and Rolls with the deep rich maroon color.

Flat black might take your interest at first but the novelty and appeal might then get old after a while and you might then regret it. Tastes change over time and it's always better to play it safe, especially with a beautiful car such as an S-type.

If you are going to do a flat or matte color just do a wrap. There are companies that do this really good where it looks like a paint job and there really is no way to tell. That way once the fad goes away and its no longer cool you can just peel it off clean it up and your STR is once again painted again.

I was reading online the other day about the flat paint jobs. They say that style of paint is now in fashion, however they're extremely hard to apply. The website said that they have a tendency to spot--maybe like fisheye problems. Flat finishes may be just a trend.

With paint and supplies costing $1,100-1,500 for any decent paint job (excluding labor), it's just too much a gamble. There's nothing wrong with a great gloss black paint job.

Personally side by side or in this case (so I don't get yelled at by the mods for making everyone scroll) up by down, I don't see much difference besides the obvious, neither one are for me. They both look like dog doo-doo....

 

I had a Suv that was flat matte grey and I loved it. The other poster is right that wraps are nice since it's not paint and can be peeled off. But they never look as good and cost a ton and only last a few years.

I have a bud who has a matte white lambo that looks awsome. Flat matte is one of those things you either like or don't. As for a trend I think I saw the first one in 1999 and now it's a factory color for some exotics so you be the judge.

 

Harley started doing bikes in flat several years ago. I was looking at one at the local dealer. Told the owner....psssst...they forgot to put the clear on this.

To each their own but looks like primer to me. Maybe on a rat rod but not on any Jag I would have.

 

I would recommend either Ultimate Black or Indigo Blue. Either color looks good on STRs and while not original to your car, at least their Jaguar colors. I agree with the previous posters that matte paint jobs aren't real attractive.

The "original" matte finish: 1970's era Lincoln Town Car split down the middle longitudinally and Navy haze-gray w/markings left and Marine camo w/markings right. Longhorns on the bonnet. Named "Rosebud" and the unofficial "Official" car of the HT-18 Vigilant Eagles at Whiting Field int eh early 90's.

Guys...I'm looking for a pic, but for now...only a desc. We all like different things...but in my opinion....it had a far greater "presence" than anything pictured above....

Mercedes-Benz offers a Mocha-Black paint color in their designo series option.

This might be something to consider since your current car color is gloss black and you mentioned you were interested in possibly a dark brown.

I have seen the Mocha Black on Mercedes and it's very nice.

No it's not his but I know Caleb aka stunna man, he isn't living here anymore, or at least didn't unless he moved back?

This guy ownes the LP560 in Bianco Canopos (matte white) and a few other lambos. We had a UGR car around to but it was wrecked back a few months ago.

 

yeah i've scratched off the matte finish idea. cant see myself down the road still feeling the paint, have a feeling it will get played out quickly. Damn that mocha black is CLEAN.......currently split 50/50....current my car is black (grill & wheels were powder coated to match) & all the lights are blacked out. The brown could be a nice change but love the murdered out look too.

 

Go with an original Jag color-radiance (Metallic Red). Jag used it
on their adverts because it's so beautiful i.e. my car!!!
