Kind of conflicted. Looking at 03-05 STR's for the same price I can get an 00-02 M5. Personally I think the STR is prettier, however I think the M5 beats it in all other categories. Can anyone give a comparison?

 

Buy the M5 and you had better have a clean credit card for the repairs. Every BMW that I ever owned required huge amounts of maintenance - way more than my Jag. A 10 year old car is going to break down......a lot.

 

You're on the right track.

The M5 outperforms the STR's across the board, speed throughout the power range, handling, and brakes. The STR looks better, will be cheaper to maintain and modify, will get more looks, is rarer (I think), and is a true sleeper.

The M5's from early this decade already look dated to me. Good luck.

 

I agree, the E39's exterior and interior looks dated. They run sub-5's 0-60, but to be honest, is it worth it? If you can grab an 05ish STR, an instant classic, timeless design, with PLENTY of ***** and head turns for the same amount of money??? Sorry but that would fall into the no-brainer catagory for me.

 

I was in the same boat but I wanted a 02+ cause I wanted the updated interior and I wanted the angel eyes. But I sit in traffic everyday and with my leg problems would get bad with a stick and I do love the looks of the STR way better and I couldnt find a 02+ for anywhere near what I got my STR for.
