Supercharger bearings
Hello again.
Ive had a few problems with the supercharger needle bearings on my STR.
Ive converted the housing to take roller bearings instead.
The roller bearings behind the gears never seem to fail so thaught id put them in place of the needles.
The old needle bearing holes are amout 30mm deep but ive only gone 13mm in from the back of the housing so there is still plenty of material for strength. Not that its under a huge amount of stress anyway.
Fitted double lip seals in front of the bearing on the rotor side.
Spins up lovley. No bangs or rattles. And zero play on the open end.
I'll replace the bearings for better quality standard tollerance units (used cheap ones just to test fit) and new seals with correct grease.
Been ooking at full ceramic and ceram hybrid bearings. No need for lube as far as i understand and last a lot longer.
Anyhoo. Time for breakfast. Sean

Sorry to dig up an old post, but can you tell me exactly what it took to do this? I have access to almost every piece of equipment that may be needed (lathe, mill, cnc, etc). How did it work in the long run? I've been having issues finding the correct bearings for the rear case. If you have a PN for those, that would be great. I have ordered a few and they have all been wrong.
Right now my '03 STR is sitting, because the blower is broken down on the bench.
