Refer to my previous posts. Looks like I will need to replace the engine in my 4.0L 2000 S Type with 5 speed auto box as I cannot regrind the crank shaft to resolve a big end knock issue. To avoid the timing chain issues associated with the 4.0, can anybody advise if it is preferable or even possible to replace the 4.0 unit with a 4.2 unit? Thanks

 

I know some of the XJR guys have done it. I haven't heard of any S-Types doing it though

You're better off selling a pre-2003 S-Type as opposed to dumping that kind of money into it.
