Default Temperature Evaporator Sensor

03 Stype 4.2L. Well I have been having problems with my A/C (heat works fine). I've read other members with the same problem I'm having. When I turn on A/C I get hot air on driver vents and cold on passenger side. I recently changed out a leaking DCCV, that did not solve problem. I am now wanting to change out temperature evaporator sensor and try that since it is a cheap part, before I take to dealer and get overcharged. Problem is I dont know where it is located on car. Also if anyone has a part number that would be great for ordering it. Texas heat is coming soon and I really need to get this problem fixed.

Also I know other problem might be control module or elec wiring. I just want to try new sensor since I can do myself.

Have you read this thread??

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=33822

It has pictures of the sensor. I would remove and clean the temperature sensor behind the grille above your ignition key first. You can see the evaporator temperature sensor by laying on your back on the driver’s side floor and look up past the gas pedal towards the center of the car.

The sensor just snaps into the evaporator. Look carefully at the pictures I posted in the above thread. Two plastic tabs can be compressed to allow the sensor to pull straight out of the evaporator.

Also be aware that the S Type has had wiring loom problems for the wires going to the DCCV. The wiring rubs and gets worn thru the insulation. Did you check for proper 12 VDC at the DCCV when you replaced it?? Or was the DCCV changed because it was leaking?

Hey Pedrolaval,
Did the evap sensors fix your issue? I do have same issue and I'm wondering if I need to change those sensors as well.
Thanks,

I just checked local dealer for the part. They quoted me $129 cdn!??? I searched internet and the price seems to increased to $50-100 range.
Jaguar S-Type Evaporator Sensor OEM XR8-53162 XR8-3729 | eBay

Also, the part number changed to XR853162 (gold plated) from XR83729 (silver plated). I guess I will try to clean them out and check if all of them gone bad or not. uhmmm..

Can anyone confirm the Ford part will work on S-Type?
MOTORCRAFT Part # YH1504, will this work???

Thanks,

It looks like the evap temp senor is the cause of my problem. The one of three sensor has different registence reading or two of tree sensor is gone bad. It looks like they're identical to Ford and Motorcraft parts. I will try to get the replacement part tomorrow and just replace all three sensors.

They look the same as the Lincoln LS part. I paid $16 for Ford part number.

XW4Z-19C734-BA. This does cross over to the following parts.

Motorcraft #YH1504
Airtex/Wells #5S7356

The Motorcraft/Ford part is only $12 at RockAuto!!

In case more people are reading this. For completeness here is the part numbers for the in dash temperature sensor. This is the one above the ignition key.

Ford part number;
XW4Z-19C734-AA $17

This crosses over to Motorcraft #YH1505
Airtex/Wells #5S7355

Again Rockauto has the Motorcraft part for $21

Thanks for the information guys.

I checked with local Ford dealers and they don't have them in stock and asking for $36~38 cdn. JagBits is asking for $94 usd for jaguar parts (XR8-3729). I guess I will just order the Motorcraft part from RockAuto.

It was quite off. I took out all three sensors and test the resistance on three different tempuratures (under 0, 10, and 15 celsius).

Wink SType hot air on right side AC

Heater did not work; replace DCCV, heater works.

Then Right side vent blows hot with cold air on left side. Added one can R134, seemed to be fixed, but hot air returned to right side.

Read posts on broken lead in control module printed circuit, so removed CM, but no damage noted and good continuity across contacts.

Now am trying to check evaporator temp sensors; found two on driver side and one on passenger side, but can't get them out; afraid I will break them. (also can't get glove box door stay loose to remove glovebox to get at passenger side!) How do you get the clips on evap sensor to release??? I saw pictures posted, but can't get sensor out.

I have also seen green dye on compressor, may have leak. Need to check refridgerant level again....Could not detect any leaks with my freon leak detector.....THANKS!!!

In case you haven't seen it, DIY: Diagnose It Yourself - JaguarClimateControl.com is very helpful.

I don't remember having any problems getting the sensors out, other than being a little cramped. I think getting the connectors to release on a couple of the sensors was the only thing that was a little tricky.

They are a pain to get at and get out..
Just try and shoogle them a bit and work them out, you may be able to get a small screwdriver behind to help

The best way I can describe it is simply wiggle up-and-down while pulling them out. The black piece under the glove box unbolts on one side and pulls out.
