Thinking of new S Type
I'm thinking of buyng a new S type, trading in my '99 XJ8. My XJ8 has been an awful experience with engine trouble - Nikasil - now at 80 K and needs a new engine. I bought the XJ two years old with 21 K miles on it. If I had know- as Jaguar did - that this engine had a likely potential for failure, I would have never bought.
Yet I want a new S Type. Is there any known trouble issuse with the engine or the new 6 speed auto transmission? Buyer Beware! and I would like to be aware!

RE: Thinking of new S Type
Great Car...all the glitches have been worked out since basically 2003! The ball bearings are vastly improved, as well as the overall car! Can't go wrong with it, with the exception that the car will loose so much value the second you take it out of the lot, that it's ridiculous! I would almost suggest to buy slightly used, but then again, can't get cheap S's if no one buys new!

RE: Thinking of new S Type
I bought used. I would have had to sell a kidney to get a new one. I got a great deal on an '04. Other than a few scratches on the paint job, the car is in great condition. It has 34K miles on it and drives like a champ. It's a 6 cylinder because I could not find any black on black with8 cylinders. The only down side is that I have to drive over an hour to a Jaguar dealer for service. My backwoods County doesn't have a certified Jaguar mechanic or a Jaguar dealer. The good news is the car has 2 1/2 years of bumper to bumper warranty left on it.
