Default Time to sell up!

After neverending problems with my jag I think it's time to sell it and put my money's towards a more decent & newer s type.
It's bady corroded in and around the boot, sills, struts etcc..
I've spent over £600 on it so far and have to draw the line somewhere!

Does anyone have opinions on the Auto s type 3.0 v6's as most I've seen have gearbox faults! I would like an auto but I'm unsure? What is the most exspensive thing to replace when the box goes? Or does it vary?
Also I recall someone saying to going for an s type above 01 plate? Any more info on this and obviously more bits to look out for when buying another jag?

Suggestions & opinions welcome )

Hi Stanners! I agree, move on up to an 03-up S-Type with the venerable ZF 6 speed auto box.

An 01 is 12 years or so old so problems are an inherent risk. They're extremely cheap but for good reasons. (This applies to many many cars of that age.)

The autoboxes don't seem problematic but bear in mind almost none of them have had any maintenance at all. They're "sealed for life" which means enough years and miles that the maker doesn't have any warranty etc issues. Say 10 years / 100K miles in rather round figures. (Again, this is not Jag-specific nowadays!)

Cars at banger prices can be great or terrible. If you love DIY and a gamble...

People tend to say FJSH but what on earth good is that when it doesn't even change the autobox oil???

Sealed for life, just a ridiculous..absolutly ridiculous idea! What are they gaining from this apart from munching gearboxes and ripping people off for a gearbox oil change!
