Troublesome Brakes
I believe I've made a post on here before about having issues with my brakes making a little bit of noise. I resolved to swapping out pads and I think I turned the rotors as well just for precaution (the rotors were fairly new, but they showed signs of a little warping). Everything seemed fine, but it seems the issue seems to have resurfaced!!![:@]
It currently isn't doing it every time I press the brakes, but I like to feel as if I'm not rolling dice to see whether or not the brakes are going to squeel. As of yet, the brakes aren't giving off much dust which is good, but I can't seem to avoid the grinding. Any suggestions?

Same here, Replacing the pads with after market did help with the noise to a certain extent but I still get what I will describe as a grunting sound If I am stopped in drive and release and apply the prakes or if I creep along at a stop light. As you say it's not all the time. I will tell you that usually if you use a harder pad to reduce dust you will get squealing. It seems to either be one or the other. Personally my brekes don't squeal that much and I would prefer less dust.
Hope this helps.

The creaking sound when you at a stop and let up the pedal a bit is common to every Jag I have ever driven. It is the caliper moving/twisting.
The factory pads and rotors....again, every Jag I have ever driven, don't make squeeling noise with factory pads and rotors. But...the dust is awful...lol

LOL so basically, no matter what I'm going to get some noise occasionally. If that's how it's going to be I understand. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't going crazy! Cuz even after I changed out etc, it still persisted. I was thinking maybe it was just because I have a habit of heavy braking techniques. I'm used to driving my Lexus Coupe and I'm pretty hard on it at times.
I have had issues with my brakes ever since I got my car including a frozen front caliper. Now I understand that all brakes make a little noise when your creeping but I get a vibration that is so nasty that it goes right up through the suspension. If i'm pulling in my garage it sounds like the rafters are cuming down. the longer I creep the louder and more violent it gets until the car finally comes to a stop. After stopping if I release the bkakes again the calipers are so loaded with tension that the noise starts right up again. the front rotors have been replaced twice and the pads 3 times. The factory pads were the worst for both noise and dust because they are so soft and want to grab and stick to the rotors. Since I have installed Kevlar pads all around the noise has gotten much better during normal braking but it is still very bad when cuming to a very slow stop or creeping. I know that the next step in the Jaguar repair procedure for eliminating this noise is to replace the lower suspension arms but all the dealers I've gone to only look at the brakes and tell me there is nothing wrong. I have been driving for 35 years and have owned many different car makes including 3 Jaguars and have never experienced this before. We all keep getting the same explaination that this is normal when coming to a slow stop or creeping but I'm sure that like myself this is not the first time that the other people with this problem have driven a car nor is it the first car they've ever owned so believe us when we say that brakes are making some abnormal noises.
I'm not bitchin, I'm just sayin.
Thanks!

My Chrysler cars have always done that, 87 Fifth Avenue and a Dodge Conversion van. It sounds like the Titanic sinking, that creaking noise. My 2000 XJ8 does it. I have just gotten used to it.

Yep, I'm starting to just learn to live with it by altering my braking habits so it doesn't happen very often. Still shouldn't be! The embarassing part is when people look at your front wheels at a stop light and they sound like their about to come off the car!

Bad Mojo,
I know it sounds horrible but I'm glad to hear that! I was thinking maybe I was just stuck with the worst Jag ever!!! LOL I've changed pads twice so far and I still get the same noise. I suppose I'll just have to keep working on my braking techniques to avoid it.

I feel a little better knowing I'm not the only one too! As I'm sure FJT will confirm though, The lower suspension arms play a role in this noise (It is not normal break noise) and it is recommended by Jaguar that if replacing the rotors and pads do not eliminate the noise then replace the lower suspension arms. I'm going to try to get my dealer to give this diag. and try to get them to replace them. I'm also going to bring in a copy of the procedure to back me up. But as you say until then I will continue to use braking techniques that will make this happed as little as possible. LOL, I guess you have pretty skilled to drive these baby's.
Thanks for your response!!

That's sad that it takes skill to drive a silent Jag. You would think with as much as you have to pay for these things, you could get silent braking! Oh well, I guess that's just something that you have to learn to live with! If it gets too bad I can always garage the Jag and drive the coupe!
