Trunk doesn't pop all the way open
Hey all,
My 2006 STR's trunk rarely pops all the way open. It will open just a few inches and sit there. My old 2002 3.0's trunk always poped all teh way open. The two trunks differ in how they pop open. 2002 had big old springs that opened it. The 2006 only has one little gas strutt to open it.
So my question is, do those of you with the strutt similar issues? Has anyone replaced the strutt? Or is this just what I'm stuck with?
thanks,

thanks,
The trunk opening hardware has not changed on the S Type from beginning to end. The gas struts at least on my STR are dampers to slow the opening of the trunk. Springs do all the work.
I would do two things. Lubricate the hinges and the latch. I use white Lithium grease in a spray can. Then clean and treat the rubber seal. I use a product called Sil-Glyde from NAPA.

Yep you are right. I looked closer and sure enough there are the big ol' springs that I had in the 2002. I don't think the 2002 had the shock though. Do some of you other guys with later cars have problems with the trunk popping all the way open?
On my 2005 the trunk opens very smooth and goes all the way open with no problem. It is funny you mention this because my wife’s 2003 Lincoln LS just pops the trunk but it does not spring open like the Jag?
