Default Trustworthy Jag Repair in Atlanta

Currently very frustrated with 2001 S-Type that only goes in reverse. Recently purchased metal shift selector ($120 from online vendor) and preparing to go to local repair shop (recommended by online vendor) to replace plastic selector, but concerned that "I will get got."

Paid $750 plus back in September from what seemed to be reputable Atlanta repair shop when car failed to start...was told by that there was a "corroding sending unit" requiring fuel pump replacement at cost of $530.00. Was able to drive the car for about 100 miles before it began lurching/hesitating/stalling at traffic lights. AND NOW, it is stuck in reverse. Reading these threads makes me wonder if the original no start issue and now the lurching issue was really a fuel filter, vacum leak or loose bolts.

Any recommendations of Atlanta Jag Repair shops to target the gearshift issue and the stalling? Not interested in doing repair job myself...just want a resolution to these problems for a fair price.

About 90K miles on vehicle...all coils/plugs (as wel as elbow breather hoses, cam cover gaskets) replaced in 2007 by Jag Dealership when car was again lurching/hesitating (but not stalling)..

Hi there, sorry to hear about your issues with your S type.

We have a vendor in that area, NalleyJaguar who are excellent on the spares side, they've helped out many a member here with great pricing and excellent service.
They may be able to offer similar on the servicing side as regards pricing etc if you mention you're a forum member. We usually go through Dave I believe in the parts dept, used to be Dan.................If you're stuck you could always at least ask the question.............They've been absolutely awesome with any of our members they've dealt with.

If you're looking for an alternative, which I guess you are, I'm not local and can't help unfortunatley.............Hopefully someone local will chime in soon.

Good luck

Although I have not done this repair, I have read here that it is a fairly easy DIY project if you have JTIS (free) or alldatadiy.com ($25.00 anually) .

A OBDII scanner is fairly inexpensive to read codes at home or go to any BIG Box auto parts store and have them read for free.

+1 on Nalley Jaguar. Maybe their service dept. will give you a jaguarforum discount, as their parts dept. does for members here.

Don't think you'll find an simple answer...For franchise there are Nalley and Hennessy...They have the highest odds of diagnosing the problem the quickest and probably will have the highest labor rate...It may take other shade tree mechanics playing the expensive game of "process of elimination" until they get to the bottom of the problem...

How's your battery ??? is it still the original ?? if so, you should replace it and it just may solve some problems.

Default I am done--

Thanks to all for feedback. Vehicle taken to VER IMPORTS on Riverdale, GA. Tech says transmission bad and no point in replacing shift selector. Rebuilt transmission will run $2200. The more I review this excellent site the more I realize that jags are prone to the most irrational failures. So unfortunate...pretty sure I am done with this car since I have no time or inclination to keep the chase up.

Wonder how much I can get for a car stuck in reverse. Stunning development...Jaguar really should be ashamed.

Again, thanx all.

Jaguar and any English built car has the rep of being unreliable...Why did you think you got yours for so cheap?

I read in consumer reports that the 2003 S-Type having good ratings. But I know the car made several changes between 2001 and 2003. Except for the coolant lines and drooping headlights that I fixed for $0.50 mine has been headache free, and it's daily driven.

I think the post meant the changes that are in the 2003 (2002.5MY) model. Long list, covered before if you wish to then go reading.
