Two shops refuse to install the 3lb pulley with the S/C on the car...
Anyone run into this? Can anyone offer some words of wisdom I can use to try to perused the mechanic? One shop said it was an 8 hour job but thinks he can do it in 7...With that much labor, new gaskets and the price I paid for the pulley we're talking $750-$1000 range...I just can't justify that much and would honestly rather sell the pulley and go a nitrous route...
Try a different shop. Maybe one that tunes Mustangs and/or Lightnings. No way/no how putting on ONE pulley should cost ANYONE $1000 bucks. Are either of the shops experienced in this sort of upgrade?
The right way to remove the upper pulley on the car involves using a rather large puller. Some tell you to split the pulley, this is something I recomend against. There is no reason to remove the supercharger to take the pulley off. You need to find someone who actually has a supercharger pulley puller. Here is an example.
Interesting---I just got an estimate from a shop in Atlanta for changing the pulley on my xkr. 2hrs for pulley change and one additional hour for grinding the snout for the smaller pulley. The shop was supplying the pulley.
I don't think one exists is the problem...

3lb, unfortunately no.
1.5lb, however, from what I've read, should be no problem. Less power, but less alteration to the car.

Wonder if the the pulley can be machined to fit relatively cheap? It's a matter of finding a shop to do do the grinding, I've called about a dozen places and generally get the bring it down so I can look at it answer...Might be SOL unless I want to drive somewhere hours away...
I've done both pulleys. The stock pulley can be cut off to save time and money for a direct press on 1.5 pulley...need more? if you haven't a puller, cut off the 1.5. A decent shop can use the Phoenix Coach Works dummy pulley (Mafioso may let you borrow his, as I had) as a guide for grinding down the snout (a skilled machinist can do this in two hours). You'll be very satisfied with the low down torque and hp the 3 lb pulley affords. My STR can burn-em for nearly 75 yards before she'll hook-up. Prepare yourself to procure a "Killer Chiller, as this will be definitely necessary at this juncture. A pair of hi-flow cats and x-pipe will compliment the new found boost.
