Default Unique Blank Screen Issue / DVD Drive Compatibility

Hello, I have been diagnosing my intermittent blank screen issue for a few weeks now with no luck. I have read through all the threads on this topic but my issue seems to be unique as the screen operates intermittently, about 10 minutes every few drives. I have made a new DVD (didn't work) and checked voltage/ground at both the drive and front screen connectors per the diagnostic guide and they are fine. I believe the rear unit needs to be replaced. My car is a 2004 STR. The numbers on the unit are 2R83 10E877 AD and 462100-8119. Must I get exactly the same numbers or are there others that will work? Anything else that needs to be matched before I buy one? Thank you so much for the help, I am at a standstill here.

Yes, that's really annoying problem. Mine occasionally looses colour saturation and then usually always goes back to full colour, but never blank.
I've burnt a few of the Toyota/Lexus DVD's over the years that usually work very well. The last one I burnt which is only a few years old so maps still half reasonable didn't have the 45 degree view option which was very neat, only the top 90 degree view but what do you expect for free?
I assume you've checked all the cable connections in the boot and made sure they're all nice and clean.

It usually is the rear (nav) module but this fault sounds different - so it may be the screen itself.

The LCD screens in our cars are getting old.
LCD screens do not like to be below freezing, this will slowly make them deteriorate with time causing some strange effects, picture scrolling when cold and a loss of colour being the more common ones.
The effects are accumulative, the more often the screen goes below freezing the worse the problem.
I am not saying 100% that this is what is causing the intermittent blank screen, but it could be.

One other thing to check is to see if the touch sensitive function of the screen still works even when the screen is blank. You will need to leave it on a screen that uses this function and know when on the screen the ‘buttons’ are when it goes dark.
