Default Unsuspected oil patch on road while turning equals a bad combo (duh)

So I was on my way into work. Was turning onto the freeway ramp when I hit an oil patch and slid out of control. Wasn't speeding, my tires aren't bald..bad luck perhaps?

Maybe taking one of those courses on what to do when your car skids out of control will help for future reference. After I realized that I didn't hit the wall on the other side and I was okay. I got out to survey the damage expecting the worse. To my surprise it was THAT bad that jaguar emblem was dangling and so was my passenger mirror also small scratches from the fence, but not dents on dings. Low and behold the tow truck driver forgot to clear the area before winching up my car and nearly ripped off my bumper with the pole from the fence. Of course I let out a few words that shouldn't be said in front of kids. Surprisingly enough the auto repair was able to put my bumper back on still intact and the emblem also. I'm still going to get a new bumper because of the scrapes underneath and the black moulding was taken off. Waiting on a replacement passenger door mirror and the scratches are going to get buffed off Monday.

Of course this accident fed my boyfriend's ego. He definitely believe men are superior drivers on the roads, dirt, trails, etc. lol

Oil eh? I don't see anything on that road, but I do something on the fence. That does suck though, I think I would've cried if that happened to me.

That is unfortunate. Phew, I'm glad I only have to worry about ice on the road...not "oil patches". Do these just bubble up from the ground in your locale?

That's a heck of a curb, I'm surprised you didn't have more damage.

I meant oil as in from other cars, not oil "patches" from underground. It was impossible to see with the ground being wet and the roadway black (the part where I started to slide). They don't bubble up from the street, it is just a heavy traffic area so I assume maybe leaking oil from passing cars?

I was trying to figure out how I began to slide but when I walked back down to the area I could even feel how slippery it was by sliding my shoe across the ground. The officer stated that there's always accidents at that particular turn because of the slippery roadway. For the record yes I wanted to cry (lol). I'm surprised the damage wasn't more extensive as well.
