But must not be used for locking the crank while loosening the pulley bolt.

Here is motorcarman's method, notice you need a piece of drive belt in the pulley to protect it.

I have used the starter and breaker bar method for decades. Works like a champ and no special tools are needed.

Just verify that the engine will turn the proper way before hand!

If you put the breaker bar on backwards, that could be a wild ride through the radiator, oil filter and shop ceiling.

You already have the correct crank damper holding tool. The crank LOCK tool is for timing, NOT tightening/loosening the damper bolt!!

I suppose it would be better to call it a crank positioning tool?

I thought that was what was in my kit. Lordy, I am learning a lot, but it is some much fun to be able to do my own work in this car.

PAGE 3 clearly states.................

"CAUTION: Under no circumstances should JD 216, crankshaft locking
peg, be used to lock the crankshaft during any operation to tighten or
loosen the crankshaft center bolt."

JD 216 is for the X308/X100 engine but the premise is the same for the S-Type locking peg.

I don't even install the peg until the damper is loose!!

Thanks Bob. That seems to solve the question. Now to grow some muscles to un-torque that bolt.

I got it on ebay, but I can't find the ticket on it so I don't know who sold it to me. Search there first. I think I paid about $125
