Default US headlights for a 2003 S-type

Hi all, just to put you in the picture, next week I goto England to pick up my new baby - 2004 S-type 4.2.

As you all know they drive on the left, with the dipped beam shaped a bit like this \__, so I'm going to have to change my headlights for European style ones which have a dipped beam shaped like this: __/ .

Now I can't find any a sensible money in Europe so I was wondering about buying in the USA, but I don't know if your dipped beam shape is the same as in Europe??

If it's the same I can start searching on Ebay.com - I just don't want to buy some from America and then when I get them, they don't pass the technical inspection in France.

Cheers
Dave

Yes our lights are setup the way you want. I would do some more checking because US lights must meet DOT regulations and in France I am not sure what standard is mandated? Maybe TUV?

You did not state what lights you want to install. The STR HID's are different from the regular S Type HID's. The regular S Type HID's have a chrome interior and the STR's have black. It is MUCH easier to find the chrome versions.

Thanks for your reply Tbird (lovely car by the way!). What I have now are the std halogen (non xenon) lights and I was thinking of just replacing then with the same, but dipping to the right for French driving.

I don't really mind which type of lights I fit, just so long as I can afford to buy some that will allow me to put my car onto French plates.

Incidently the European equivalent to your DOT is to have things "E-marked" with means it conforms with the European regulations. TUV is - I believe - just for Germany and I think is now superseded by E-marking.

Have a look at my thread here https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...adlamps-73200/

OK you have halogens, but i have heard that something similar can be done with the S-Type halogens, and I know that it has been done with X-Type halogen lights.

Thanks for that Cambo. I'll be picking the car up next Tuesday so I'm like a kid waiting on his birthday, counting the hours.

Childish? Yes, and .................................................. ....

This dream has been a long time coming
