I think you may have got a V6 compressor, Rick had the opposite problem when he changed his some time ago, does this look like what you have?

The left hand side is V6 and the right V8

 

Norri that thought crossed my mind last night. The one compressor on the right is for the V8 version S Types with the shorter bolt guides.

That looks like what may have happened, well at least we now know that a v6 compressor works in the v8 except for the rubbing and all.

Now that valve or sensor on the top of the photo, that bolt could be rubbing also, do you show in your pictures how different the mounting location is between the 2 compressors? I don't think I can shave that one down.
