Thanks for this excellent post. I was wondering how to do this as mine are broken.

Exclamation I messed it up

This is a great description of a procedure that should have worked. I used Gorilla Glue 5-minute epoxy. It turns out, the "5 minutes" refers to working time, not hardening time. I tried to use mine after about an hour, and one of the springs dislocated. I put it aside and ordered a new mirror from Jaguar. A few days later, when I came back to throw away the failed repair, I found that the adhesive was rock solid. Today I used my Dremel to remove the glue hardened in the wrong position and re-did it. I also fixed the passenger side, which was failing. The moral of the story is that you don't need to spend $100 to Jaguar for a new mirror, or another $100 for them to do the five minute installation (like I did). This repair really works if you let the epoxy harden overnight.

I just had this happen to our 2003 yesterday on the passenger side. We don't drive it that much (53K) and it is always garaged, but it amazes me as to the things that have gone wrong with this car when it is babied so much. This car rarely sits outside for an extended period of time. My wife has always liked the car and would just as soon drive it as opposed to our older 97 XK8 Coupe (43K and never rained on) and doesn't want me to sell it like I threaten to do on a regular basis.
