Vibration under acceleration

Hi all
Since getting my S type a couple of weeks ago (54 plate diesel) I've noticed a vibration under light to medium acceleration from about 30mph / 2000 RPM upwards, but strongest around 2000RPM. Seems worse under quite gentle acceleration and is often not noticeable at all when accelerating hard. At a steady speed there is no vibration at all. The car is otherwise very smooth and vibration free. I've had a good search of the forum and can't find anything. Any advice on what to look for gratefully received!
Edit - just to add, it feels very much like when you have a rear wheel miles out of balance, but is not there at a steady speed as I would expect to be the case in this scenario.
Regards,
Dave

Have the drive shaft and carriers checked.... My cousin's 535i did that. It also displayed a shudder when cresting a hill during spring unload. The dealer inspected his drive line and rear diff. Changed the carrier bearing and rebalanced the drive shaft and all was fixed. That was a week after buying it new in 2001 and the problem never came back.

Hi All
Just to let you know, for reference in case anyone else has this problem, that after much jiggling of suspension components and driveshafts this has been diagnosed as a torque converter failure! Turns out that a new (remanufactured) one is not all that expensive, but the six hours of labour is. Luckily it's under warranty!
