Default Video of BRUTALS headlight fix... FAQ

NEW VIDEO is up. 2 days ago had the drooping headlight so I figured I'd bust out the old camcorder and add another video to my installments and hopefully help out some people that needed better visualizations. I didnt do a tool breakdown on this one cause the only tool you should need is a drill. Hope this helps out some people. SPECIAL THANKS TO BRUTAL FOR FIGURING OUT THIS SIMPLE CHEAP FIX FOR US.

Be on the lookout for my brake video that will be up next weekend. I warped a rotor so I'm installing new rotors next weekend so will be doing a brake video for you guys and will post up another thread once its done. Will be a how to on the STR Brembos front and rear.

I may not of clarified to well. BRUTAL had that post about the fix and the knowledge I took that knowledge and made the video since I was subjected to the problem 2 days ago. This way people could have a better visual on what to do and what to look for to diagnose since the post he made just had pics you cant really show what to check for looseness to find out if the screw method will work for you.

Thanks for the HD video (and thanks to Brutal as well).. this just saved me some big bucks! I used a 1.25" screw and it was definately too long. I'll go back and re-do it with a 1" screw. The auto-leveling start-up still works after this mod!

....yeah I was surprised myself that the auto-leveling was still working on start up perfectly

Your headlight will still adjust cause the housing for the headlight that does the adjusting is mounted on that chrome section so even if its drooping its still adjust its just pointing at the ground. Here is a pic that has the section that moves up and down for the adjustment.

No problem just glad they help people out. Got some more coming. Will be moving soon and should be getting a garage so my videos will get better. Asking Santa for a tripod also so they wont be so shakey with me trying to film with one hand and wrench with the other. If I dont get one I'll at least not be working in gravel and could actually set something up to hold the camera better.

If I'm not mistaken all my videos are in the S type FAQ sticky under a videos section.

Thanks Vance and Brutal, did this today. However, I kept hitting that "chrome tab" nipple thingy that it sticking out. It did push the housing back to where I think it should be, but the 1" screw is sticking out about 1.4'. Are you screwing this into the base of chrome bypassing the "nipple"?

Also, in regards to moisture gettign in there eventually making a wreck of your inner headlamp, did you put any sealant or anything around the screw? Thanks -JG

it either pushes back on that or under it and I change screw lengths as needed. It depends on your aim

Haha ok, ya my aim was pretty good, I aimed for the nipple and got it but realized it wasnt going to push back a full inch and the screw would stick out significantly. I redrilled and got it on the base, screw is completely in, but the headlamp aim may be a tad high so I'll have to back it out a bit. SO basically I'll be left with a hole from my original drill and a screw that is not completely flush.

Is the inner headlamp area (where the bulbs are) sealed from where we are screwing into or will moisture be able to make its way through potentially causing problems?

Thanks man, -JG

The headlights are vented anyways since they are HID. Thats what the tube that comes out the back is for. I guess you could throw some silicone since its in the front and you may get water from driving and it hitting the front. My screw went all the way in so I didnt use anything to seal it since it is seated but I can see where it may come in in a really good rain storm with the screw sticking out some. Wouldnt hurt.

I did this fix last weekend and it worked perfectly. The only value I would add is that I bought the smaller diameter of the 1 inch sheet metal screw as to not crack the clear plastic area. Once I did the fix, I drove around and noticed that one headlight was much higher than the other. I then pointed the headlights at a wall to see how uneven they were. To fix it I had to play with the screws and pull them out a bit to get them even and at a desired level. I would say they are a few millimeters out from the plastic. I checked to see if they are hitting the hood and they are not, so its okay to have come space in between the plastic and the head of the screw.

Hope this helps, thanks for saving me $$$$. Oil change soon (also great video).

Fixing Drooping Headlights on S type R Jaguar - YouTube
Thanks so much for this video. I used it to fix my own headlight droop issue today. It cost $1.50 for the two screws, and 20 minutes of time. I occasionally work in a neighboring city that has me drive on back roads for around 40 miles and I did not feel safe with this issue (droop was on both sides).
