Warning: Lug Nut Issue with Mini-Spare Tire
Folks,
Is the black wheel an alloy or steel wheel? If the later, there may be two wheels. The orange alloy wheels may be used on the STR to clear the brembo brakes. I know the orange one works fine and doesn't bottom out with the factory bolts.

Makes sense that steel wheels use the conical section of the lug nuts. I think the STR use the same nuts and on my orange wheel, the spare alloy makes contact in the same way as the regular wheels - on the flats of the nut. I always though the conical section on the nuts ease the threading process when installing the alloy wheels, now I know it serves two purposes.
I just looking into my manual, seems like there are two temp spare wheel specs
T145/80R16 105M Continental on a 4.5x16 rim (must be the black one)
T115/85R18 96M Pirelli on a 4x18 rim (must be the orange one)

Just went out and tested my spare wheel on my non-R. Fits fine using the standard lousy Jag lug nuts. Each stud protruded 15/16" (24mm) from the wheel.
BTW- I'm purposely not reading this thread when my significant other is in the room. She'd be all over the OP for the 'weak and feeble minded women' tone. Gotta go now, she wants the washing and ironing done before she gets home from golfing.

Please provide your significant other's cell phone number. Next time my wife's S-Type suffers a flat, I'll call her so she can immediately head down here and change the tire. And while she's in town, if she wants to clean my gutters that would be much appreciated as well....
Put mine on yesterday with the Gorilla nut replacements for the factory ones and it was just fine. I'm not driving the car but I don't see the same thing.
Since I'm shopping for a second one of these due to a dual blowout now I have something else to worry about!

My wife arrived home safely from Florida last night. This morning, her left rear tire was dead flat with a nail lodged squarely in the center of the tread, so it was easily patched and balanced and is repaired and back on the car now. Good thing it occurred after the drive back home instead of after the drive down to Florida to see her parents. But here's what I discovered in the process....
Our car has what I presume is its original Continental mini-spare tire stored in the trunk. When I went to mount it this morning so I could move the car from blocking my truck in the driveway, I discovered that not only are my new 21mm hex Mitsubishi lug nuts not long enough in the threaded shaft to grab and hold the mini-spare onto the wheel, but neither are my lousy 19mm hex factory Jaguar two-piece lug nuts. Both sets of lug nuts come up nearly a half-inch short of being able to hold that mini-spare down tight against the wheel hub. Unbelieveable, especially with the factory nuts. And very dangerous for women who drive solo across multiple states in these cars not knowing any better.
These mini-spares need regular conical lug nuts, NOT the shanked and washered lug nuts that our Jaguar wheels take. And they require lug nuts that have a threaded shaft at least a half-inch longer than ours, maybe as much as an inch longer. So now I'm on the hunt for five long, inexpensive conical lug nuts that will be kept in a plastic bag and taped inside the mini-spare and labeled "Caution: Always use these lug nuts when mounting the mini-spare".
I'm posting this information mainly for those of you whose wives are the primary drivers of these cars. But ALL of you need to know this information. If you have a mini-spare, go outside and try to mount it on one of your hubs. You'll see exactly what I mean....

I too have discovered a "mini-spare" in boot. Red-orange rim with Pirelli Tyre, "Inflate to 430kPa / 60 psi. and maximum 50 mph / 80 kph." I have replaced with alloy rim (similar to my '03 XJR "minilite" OEM rims) with Pirelli 6000 tire, virtually unused. Same 5-bolt pattern as OEM, 4 1/2" on center. Interestingly, "hold-down" rod does NOT fit into threaded receiver in jacking accessory pack under tire??? Rod diameter is too small. Hmmmmm. But I do now have an unused OEM "Mini" spare.
