Weird HVAC and accessory question
Does anyone know if the HVAC/Radio and power windows/locks will work with the ECU removed? Is everything run through the ECU?
Reason for the question is if one were to do an engine swap or run a stand-alone ECU, would the other stuff work?

I think the AC system would give you lots of grief. The AC module controls the compressor clutch via the ECM. Might be tricky to spoof that control chain.
The AC pressure sensor is another consideration. It provides feedback of the high side pressure via the ECM. The AC module needs this input or it won't command the clutch to engage. I suppose you could come up with a workaround but it would involve some serious head-scratching.

Control of the radiator fan would be fun, too. IIRC, the fan control module receives inputs from both the ECM and AC module.
You didn't ask, but I'm not sure how the security system would react. The instrument pack is the heart of the security system and it communicates with the ECM. The ECM in turn has VIN-specific programming. If the instrument pack doesn't receive the secret handshake from the ECM, most likely it will go into theft protection mode.
Not saying it can't be done, but it could be quite the daunting task.
