Default What do dashes in odometer mean in this format? --:--

When scrolling through the options in my odometer (trip meter, avg. mpg, ave. speed, etc) I come across this:

--:--

It looks like maybe it's a timer, or stopwatch or something, but I have no idea how to activate it or set the clock on that if that is what it is.

If you have any idea what that could be, please let me know! I have searched the forums and can't find anyone else who's posted about this problem.....

Thanks!

Then it is similar to my 05. I looked it up in the manual and didn't find any reference to it. I think it is the option to turn it off, but I'm not sure. I'll scroll thrugh mine and see.

I have a late 2003 also, but mine does not display the symbols you mention. On the other hand it does display the current time as one of the choices. I presume that this clock set simultaneously with the 'main' clock in the centre panel.

I scrolled through mine and am at a loss. The dashes doesn't come up. That may not mean anything since my car is a "base" S. The only option on it is heated seats. I don't even have home-link or memory seat....

Hmmm, yeah I feel like reading somewhere that it is supposed to have a clock in the rotation, now that I think about it.

Also, I was told today that my 2003 is not a late model. Can anyone confirm this by my VIN? If you have any knowledge of the VINs for 2003, please let me know and I'll PM mine over to you.

I do know, however, that the 6th to last letter in the VIN is an "M" and I was told that if it was a late 2003, that letter would be an "N". Anyone know anything about this?

Also, if anyone else knows anything about the dashes, or has it on their car, please respond. Thanks. I'm so curious.

Mine doesn't have the dashes, either.

Lots of parts are different based on VIN M45254 if that helps.

My notes on model years are:
2002.5MY == VIN M45255-M62935
2003MY == VIN M62936-M94764
2004MY == VIN M94765-N13088
2004.5MY == VIN N13089-N14070
2004.75MY == VIN N14071-(what?)

So which would that make yours?

Last four of my VIN is: M86524

So, by what I'm now reading, my 2003 is a late model year 2003.

Ok, so it seems that we have the exact same model. Our VINs must be pretty close. The last 6 of mine is M86524, and you say you have the time display. I'm going to try to set my clock again, and see if anything happens.

Mines M56373 and I have the time display as well, the next step is the oddometer, then the trip info etc.

Ok, so I set my clock again via the "mode" button on the radio, and it still didn't change the dashes... I'm wondering if others change the clock this way, does it change in your dash display odometer LCD? Please report back. I'm really baffled over this. Everything else seems to work great, including the MPG, trip meters, etc, etc.

Looking forward to responses.

That may be the reason - I bet the others (who don't have the dashes) do have the touchscreen.

No touch screen for me!

I'll go and have a fiddle with my clock later to see what happens.

I just scrolled thru mine..both "A" and "B" settings and all is normal. I don't have the satnav either, just the standard '06 3.0.
Pantheon, have you contacted the Jag repair shop in Upland yet ?

OK, I just tried it and resetting the radio clock does reset the clock in the oddometer area also, so it looks like it may be a wiring fault between the two.
