I've looked at a search and found lots of references but no photos.

I've looked at my PDF of the S-type 2000-2005 parts list. The search engine can't even find "throttle" let alone one with a body attached.

I just had to have one replaced by the Select Edition warranty. I have no idea what the cost was but it went over the threshold where a dealer has to get approval from Jaguar to do the work.

So...what the heck is it and what would it be called in the parts list?

it's kinda like what a carb. used to do. IT regulates air and the fuel via injectors to be dummped into the manifold. Your gas pedal linkage is hooked to it so the farther you push the gas pedal the more air and fuel get dumped into the kitty.

Don't know the parts list name but the TB is:
a high precision motor-driven device for cutting off (throttling) the air an engine would otherwise suck in
plus multiple precision sensors to check it functions as needed
and heating/cooling

I assure you search engines can find throttle.

aka ETC (elec throttle control)

 

In the foreground, just aft of the expansion tank fill cap...

 

???? The JPEC itself calls it a 'throttle body'. Look under air and fuel delivery systems/air delivery system components.

Thanks. I had an idea of the functionality but the name sort of implies just a metal casting to which other things are attached rather than to integrated whole. With the pictures, all is clear.

I can't read the text on the last 2 pictures.

 

Which browser and OS? It's easily visible (though not a particularly nice red) in firefox on Linux.

 

XP & Google Chrome. I just tried IE7. Same thing.

UPDATE: If I zoom it to 172% I can figure it out but it's really blurry.

I had a similar issure with the transmission control harness plug on my 2001 Sable wagon.
A ham fisted service tech broke the retaining tab and it wiggled loose causing all kinds of transmission malfunctions.
I had to glue it on with silicone RTV. Nothing to loop a wire tie on.

Is that clear RTV or silicone grease or ?

 

lol...my first attempt at "big pictures" under Rick's instruction...be gentle with me.

it's Permatex blue. Since the terminal seals were exposed, I figured I better re-seal the connection. Although it may be adhering the zip-tie to the connector body a bit, it is really just for sealing, not for physical joint integrity. Held phone under the connection and snapped a pic and I may still have a water path, I'll check and seal as necessary when she's home this later this week for "Mardis Gras break."

Noted text in 2nd pic smallish, so used a much larger font in 3rd...to no avail. added lines and text in MS-Paint. It says, "here's the same connection after Zane removed and reinstalled it - note custom retention locking" and "After sealings applied for Northeast LA winters.." or something like that.

To be fair, I was being quite gentle and understanding in the removal process...very much caressing and speaking softly to it....nonetheless...still shattered into about 7 small pcs and the one remaining large one pictured upon removal.

It's the last two pictures, it's already very small compared to the first and on top of that it's fuzzy.

There's so much hardware and software involved in today's systems I'm not sure it's worth bothering about. My system is using a motherboard with built in video so I'm not running state of the art stuff but still ...

Ah wait a minute, using MS-paint. That's ancient as well as horrible to use. I've had similar results when I used it.

 

Wow, the differences between my 2001 and that are huge!
