Hello guys,
My used jag didnt come with a manual!
I tried to open up the link on jaguar for the manual but that didnt work either.

My car just popped this new little indicator..but I have no idea what it means.
I suppose it is bad.[]

Please tell me what this means if you know?

Well tickle, that little thing that looks like an old fashioned engine is just that...it's a check engine light. As for what it means exactly, well it could be dozens of things, from a small problem to a honky-dory one. There are some techs around here as you may or may not know, and they'll ask lots of questions before they even begin trying to diagnose that light.

Some things to let them/us know:

- Year, mileage, VIN number (just in case)
- Any performance problems or car acting up, smelling bad, running hot (temp gauge on that thing)...anything that you notice with that light on?
- Is it just when you start the car, or after you drive it for awhile...in city driving, or highway (or both)?

Now, the computer inside your car stores lots of strange codes, could be a P####, U####, and so forth. What you'll need to do is go to a local AutoZone (or equivalent...may want to call first) and have them hook up their scanner (they do it for free) and they will tell you if you have any P, U or other codes that may be stored.

Then report back here for more help. Let's cross our fingers it's a small issue No need to go to the dealer just yet. Be careful when driving it, I would limit the time in the seat until you can at least figure out what is causing the indicator light. Hate to do more damage to it while diagnosing it.

 

Looks like you have an S-Type by looking at the cluster. If it is a 3.0, my money is on lean codes. A breather hose with a gaping big hole in it somewhere.

 

Ummm.....forgot this was the S-Type forum. Of course he has an S-Type. But the rest of my post ^^ still stands.

What year and engine size? Need to look up.

 

Think 4.0 air assist valve. Just a guess as I can't bring myself to log back on right now. Definitley 2000-2002 as evidenced by the ipk. If the code is air assist valve, easy to replce. 2 bolts
