Default What to watch out for when looking for used s-type r

I am thinking about purchasing a used s-type r (2003-2005). What are the common issues that I should look out for? I know the EPA ratings are 15/22, but what kind of mileage can I realistically expect (I like spirited driving)? Would you consider this a good commuter car? I drive ~90 miles per day for work. Other than the gas mileage, any other issues with commuting (ride comfort, reliability, etc...)?

You don't mention where you are. I've discovered very recently that this car is NOT great if your commute included snow. As such, my very-nice silver / black-leather STR is for sale. I'm in Utah.

If you are interested, please PM me, or reply here and I will contact you.

edit: I just noticed your profile says you're in FL. Plan on approx $1000 to ship from here to there.

Actually Ive gotten 27mpg on the hwy before. That is one of the benefits of a roots blower, when you are cruising, there is a bypass valve that redirects air so the blower doesn't use as much hp and you get better mpgs.

There things are smoooooth! There is power when you need it, on-demand. Brakes are world-class. You will look foward to driving her at every chance. My wife and I just cruised over to your area Sunday just for a fun drive to Anna Maria Island.

probee773, I also drive 90 miles round trip. The STR is comfortable, luxurious, reliable, a looker, and fast. Join us son.

^ pretty much what he said. Real world fuel economy is tough to compare since driving styles vary so dramatically. I'm happy if i'm somewhere near 20mpg in mostly two lane road 30 mile daily commute. Usually i'm under that, in the 18-19 range. It's a fun car, comfortable, powerful, reliable as any other used car of that vintage.

Default supercharger

I get 28 mpg on a 40 mile per day commute. By the way, does anyone know if an Eaton supercharger can be rebuilt? Or is a new one the only option? Mine has a bearing going down.....thoughts?

2005 STR used daily for 50K+ miles. A great commuter car. If you are worried about gas mileage then move on! The car is capable of higher fuel mileage but the driver is not!

LOL! clubairth summed it up. When behind the STR's wheel, most inhibitions goes out the exhaust pipes.
