Angry Wheels Problem!

Guys,

I got Carelia Wheels off of XKR for my S-Type (Front: 245/40R19, Rear: 275/35R19) had them installed today at Discount Tires and I left my old (beaten up wheels/tires) with them to recycle (Great :S).

Now I have my car on nice wheels but rears are sticking out of the fender. By the time I realized that they hit the body when I hit the bumps of make turn on a relatively faster speed the shop has already been closed and tomorrow is 4th of July holiday.

I know I made stupid mistake by not realizing what the rear wheels could do if they are sticking out (nor guys at Discount tires warned me for this).

I'll see if they still have my old set on the next business day but if they don't, do I have any other option than to get the new wheels with the tires?

Rear:

Front:

Thanks a lot!

You could try a lower profile tire and have your arches rolled maybe

The rear axle of the X150 XK/R changed for MY2010 to the same track as the XF (& S-Type?) maybe you've got wheels from the earlier model on the back. Can you check the offset of the current rears? Will be stamped into the back of one of the spokes. Also check the parts catalog, several XK wheel styles have two versions for the rears, depending on the model year. You will have to change them one way or the other...

Just checked online, the offset on these wheels are as follow:

Rear: 31mm offset
Front: 49mm offset

Fronts are perfectly fine.

One option could be to found another pair of fronts and use them as rear?

Also I think wheels are either from 07, 08, 09 XK.

Appreciate any suggestions/help.

By the way, realise that the S-type should always have the same tire size all around.
Even a small differance will trigger the abs/tracktion control system.

Those wheels look nice! The wheels you have on for the back are staggered that's why its rubbing and the tires are not that thick so you cant get thinner ones because its going to look stupid, best option is find another front set put them on and enjoy!

Yes front set on the rear is a solution.

But if you really want staggered, then check if this wheel design was also available for the MY2010 onwards. They should have ~ET49 like the fronts.

Staggered isn't a problem from the ABS/DSC if the rolling circumference is close front/rear. Don't forget the S-Type R ran staggered from the factory.

How far do they stick out? Rolling the fenders will get you some clearance (I had to do it on mine).

Thanks All for your suggestions. As as much as I love these wheels compared to the OEM 16s, this issue is a big one for me.

Here is pic from above:

Michael, Police:
I had a look at the tires/wheels against the fender again and it seems like Rolling might not be a good option (It *may* give a small gap though cuz its touching at almost the edge).

I'm leaning towards getting a pair of Front wheels (use as rears) and sell the rears I have.

I'll keep you posted in a week or so, if anyone has any suggestion where to get used/reman wheels (I'm also keeping an eye on ebay and some sellers are selling these rear wheels or a complete set, will have to call them to see if they have the front), please let me know. Also If can sell mine to them as well even better.

Thanks again!

Judging from that pic, fender rolling isn't going to help unless you go super aggressive.

Even when rolled mine still rubbed

That looks very similar to what I have. Which wheels you have on your car? What is the size and offset?

Do you feel safe driving? I'm reluctant to go over 40miles/h or making sharp turns as it does not take any effort to hit the smallest bump and rub the tires!

Thanks,
Rizwan

20x8.5 42mm
20x10 45mm

I'll admit, I've driven a lot on the tires and there are some cuts in it. I took everything out of the trunk, and only let people sit in the back for short trips. I do worry they will blow out, which is why I went aggressive with the rolling.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Today the problem has been resolved! I was able to get a pair of front wheels and have had them installed with new Michelin tires on rear.

Thank You!

Sorry to reopen an old discussion but this is very relevant to my current situation.

I would like to put Carelia rims on my S type 4.2V8.
I see from the original post that the staggered rims do not fit.
STR came with staggered rims though, how does that work? Does the STR have a narrower axle to accomodate the wider staggered rims?

I have located a set from a XJ but surprised to find they are all 8.5J et49 anyway.
So really what I need is confirmation that these rims will work OK without any mods.

Do you think its OK to fit these?

No. The STR is the same width as the rest of the S Types.

Staggered rims will fit because the STR came stock with staggered rims as was posted above.

The key is to get the proper offset front and rear.

There are a LOT of variations as you have found out!
