2004 Jag S Type 6 cyl 3.0

can anyone give me instructions on how to keep the bender doors(?) open - can drive in the rain and hate keep defog on blast while raining please?

I think pushing DEF once diverts all air to the defrost for a certain amount of time, and then the system reverts back to AUTO. If you hold the DEF button for a few seconds, you'll hear a beep and I think that overrides AUTO and keeps all air flow to the defroster for the rest of that drive cycle. RECIRC works like that, but am not 100% sure about DEF.

However, I'm willing to bet your AC is not operating properly. You shouldn't have to keep the defrost running constantly. Normally, in AUTO mode, the AC runs at a low level to dry the cabin air and reduce fogging. More than you ever wanted to know about your HVAC system is here:

Run the tests given in post #2 first. After that, verify the operation of the AC system by running the tests in post #4 (some AC) or #5 (no AC). Please let us know what you find.

You are in AUTO mode aren't you? It will fog up otherwise.

Yes indeed and the temperature can be altered without losing the auto mode.
