Wind whistle - window alignment (FIXED!)
My car was hit beforeI owned it. Driver's door. I've been fighting a wind whistle for some time. New rubber, sucked the door in. Everything. It's right where the A pillar starts to curve flat.
I've done the window right down and hold for 10 seconds thing. Then back up and hold for 10 seconds. Not sure that does anything on this model (2000 V8)
Think the window is not closing by a mm or two? Can you adjust anything on the window slider chassis once the door panel is off?
If I can lick this the car is *perfect*. So wish I could rid myself of this noise.
FIXED! see page 2.

RE: Wind whistle - window alignment?
Cosworth my friend...that's just jaguar ingenuity for ya. It's a bad design that apparently the engineers had the radio on too loud to hear the wind noise when they were in the cabin. I don't really think there is a solution, other than turning the radio up. It's not the windows by the way, it's the windshield. Weird huh?

Well it doesn't do it on the passenger side...ultra quiet - and the driprail for the front screen is in good shape.
It foes away if you suck to door in tons, then the door looks weird and it closes ultra tight.
Everyone's car hasa wind whistle on the driver's side? I can't see that...

RE: Wind whistle - window alignment?
OK WOW. Fixed it!
I must not have been looking hard enough. I compared rubbers from side to side and then when recently parked beside another S. The rubber where to window slides up past the mirror plastic had slightly folded BEHIND the glass until the top glass curve about 4 inches up from the sill where it tucked back outside the glass. I had determined the noise was in the wrong spot. Thanks to the wife for pointing out it was coming from the mirror area instead. From her side of the car it sounded "true".
I rolled down the window and stuck my Safeway card in the glass as it rolled up and forced the ribber over the outside of the glass. It seems to stay put once the window is rolled up and down repeatedly.
For those with a noise. check rubber alignment. My door had been hot/painted and I assume the glass replaced. Rookie installer missed the rubber misfit. The car is perfect now!

RE: Wind whistle - window alignment?
congrats cosworth
easy way to verify windscreen noise is applying duct tape completely around windscreen to body then drive to verify
make sure you dont leave the tape on the body too long
adhesive not good for the paint for prolonged time epecially in the heat and sun

RE: Wind whistle - window alignment?
Duct tape is far too messy for that. I'd use gaffer tape. I used it to no avail looking for this thinking it was door/body related since the door had been hit and the window operated fine. Sometimes the noisecan generated from air pressure coming in but actually getting expelled or disturbed in a different spot.
I had never had a passenger listen to the noise inside while I held up a rag to the inside of the car and listening for a change in noise. Where I thought it was coming from was hidden from general road/wind noise. Once I moved the rag around with my wife in the car and she noticed a pitch change near the mirror that I couldn't hear.

I got her going 100+ and no noise. Damn this car is gorgeous when it's quiet. I'm so happy about this.
It was the one thing that I was worried about since the car has been hit in the door (the silver/brown is a bit off, they didn't blend the paint). I worried that structurally it wouldn't be fixable possibly a bent door etc.
Resale worries are out the door now. I will upgrade to a BRG or Blue 03+ eventually.... or an XF in a couple years.
