It's a useful package

Though I'd rather have weather where it was of no use!!

 

Well I had to bite the bullet and get a new set of winter tires. It's really tough to find something to fit an '05 STR and in fact I kinda had to put my own size package together to make it happen. NO ONE, not Blizzak, Dunlop, Michelin or others make both of the factory winter-recommended sizes. I got the Blizzak LM 32 which is an excellent (and v-rated) tire. I purchased the right winter size of 235-40-18 for the fronts but had to go to the standard size 275-35-18 for the rears instead of Jaguar recommended narrower winter size of 265s. The wallet is also a bit lighter after $1275.00 installed/out the door at Discount tire. Damn! At least I'll be able to use the automobile for the season though.

RobinB: I had Blizzaks on my '05 S-type before I got the STS. The 8x17" wheels tracked well and I rarely had any driving issues, even in the fairly deep snow and relentless ice of last year but I obviously could not use them with the staggered 18" wheels of the STS. This is my fourth set of Blizzaks over the years. I even had them on my Porsche 928 (which I still drive) and went anywhere I wanted. They are worth what you pay for them and I wouldn't buy anything else.

 

Well, Paul, I am persuaded by your comments and by the reviews of the LM-32 that I have since read. Vancouver's winters are not as harsh as elsewhere, but I have a not-good feeling about the length of this coming season.

An STR on all-season tires is a useless, wallowing, hazardous tub in any depth of snow, so the time has come to see how Blizzaks can improve on that and allow me more use of the car in the months ahead. I have ordered the same Blizzaks that you did, they will be fitted by mid-November, cost about the same as yours when you consider the weaker Canadian $. In a strange way, I am now almost beginning to look forward to winter.
