Default Won't start when cold

Have a nagging problem with 2004 S-type 4.2 V8 w/140K miles
First start of the day when it is cold outside (below ~~32F) is very difficult... sometimes impossible. Car will crank all day but will not fire off. Once it does start no smoke, i.e. no big white cloud of unburned fuel, etc.

Rest of day car will start fine. Next morning, if could same problem.

Local garage says its throwing some security system codes.

Anyone else experience this?

Mike, sounds like a fuel delivery issue. First, check your fuel filter. If it's never been changed since you owned the car change it...

Then off to checking fuel pressure when the car is cold before cranking. 40+ psi minimum... When cranking you should have no loss of fuel pressure.

Then when car is running fuel pressure should be between 45 - 55 psi at idle.

Anything less is not good.

Could be a clogged fuel filter (hopefully) or a fuel pump on its way out...

Hope the above helps.

And +1 on sharing codes
