ZF trans additive - EXPENSIVE!
So yesterday I decided to once again look for this additive because my car is low mileage and I can just add so this it's going to be a lot simpler and cheaper.
Well I guess not.
The original part number from the TSB is C2C37157 and Jaguar says the part number has been superseded to JLM21906.
The parts guy then said he'd cut me a "deal" at just over $200 for the bottle.
Some deal eh?
WTF?

What gets me is under the old part number it's about $40-$50.
What happened?
Sometimes the specification for a fluid is changed by the equipment manufacturer, in this case ZF, with the resulting price difference. You may be able to find a dealership with a supply of the fluid bearing the earlier part number that they can sell at the lower price, but once the part number has been superseded, all the parts pricing sources available to the dealership will show the new price.
Was there an issue with the earlier stuff?
BTW, Google doesn't list a whole lot of people offering either of these part numbers.
Thanks

That is correct, it is for the fluid with part number JLM21906.

The new price for the superceded part number for the ZF additive is insane. Another example of gouging, no doubt about it....
At that price it is now more practical to go ahead with a complete drain-and-fill, especially if you opt for an ATF other than Lifeguard 6. Keep in mind that other members here have reported success with Castrol Multi-Import, Mobil One, Pentosin, and Mercon SP. I believe the most cost-effective source for Lifeguard 6 remains Klaus at The CTSC in California, but you may want to call around to your local suppliers before you decide what to do. Shipping costs from Klaus will certainly drive up the price if you go that route....

The early fluid is out of production AFAIK. There was a period that none was available, so it is interesting now that they offer a replacement, albeit at a crazy price.
I agree, change your fluid, it will be much more beneficial to the long term life of your transmission anyway. Just a drain and fill will suffice (no need for a flush), which will only take 5 or 6 quarts.

I bought 20 quarts of mercon sp retail and used all of them flushing the trans. It was still cheaper than that additive.
i can't stand it when dealers ask so much. Did you ask if that price came with a reach around while your taking it in the rear?

KY was another $200 and no guarantee that the squealing would ever stop ...
