Just wondering about the wipers, as I went out last night to leave from work in the pouring rain and my wipers would only work if I wanted to clean the windshield, but not continuously for rain. If this is located on the same side of the steering column and vicinity as the Cruise control, are both related to the same problem. (Voltage, Battery, Fuses, etc.)? I was trying to avoid having to go to the dealer, as this is my first Jaguar and I don't want to be taken advantage of by their service dept.

Please clarify the malfunction of your windshield wipers:

Do they work only if you pull the right stalk toward you for a single wipe?

Do they work if you set them on one of the constant speed settings?

Do they work if you set them on the automatic rain sensing setting?

It is possible, if unlikely, that your cruise control and wiper malfunctions are related. If you can answer the questions above it will help narrow things down.

The rain sensor for the automatic wiper function is mounted on the windshield in front of the rear view mirror. You can access its electrical connector for inspection by prying apart the black housing or cowl around the mirror mounting bracket.

They only work if I push the button on the end of the stalk for a quick clean and then they stop.

 

So the three "ON" positions of the right stalk or lever do not operate the wipers? Of the top fo my head, one click upward is the "automatic" setting, where the wipers will come on automatically if moisture is detected on the windshield. Two clicks up is the constant "Slow" speed setting. Three clicks up is the constant "High" speed setting. (I may have this wrong but it's too late to go out to the car).

Have you tried all those stalk or lever positions?

I have tried all of the settings and nothing happens. They only work if I pull the stalk towards me and hold it or if I want to clean the windshield and push the button on the end of the stalk. The only way that I can have continuous wipers is to hold the stalk after pulling it towards me.

 

Hi Kim,

That does sound like a problem with the wiper switch, or possibly the cacellation module or clock spring (I assume the X350 has a clock spring but I haven't checked).

If the problem was with your clock spring, that could contribute to your cruise control problem as well. You might use the Advanced Search function to search the forum for any members who have reported clockspring problems on an X350. The clockspring is the device that conveys the electrical signals from the steering wheel-mounted switches to the rest of the electrical and electronic systems.
