Default Preference on Air Filter brand?

Aside from K&N, is there a brand of OEM-equivalent air filters that the group recommends? I did a quick eBay/Amazon search and a few different brands come up, all around the same prices.

I just got two fram air filters for about 40% of the price of one dealer filter. Paid about $25 for the pair.

Not all filters are created equal.
K&N Air Filter Review - Debunking the Myths (and why OEM is better)
I use Mahle after a lot of research.

Wix filters are truly just re-branded Mahle units...After all, WIX filters are the official filter of NASCAR...Wix uses a glass media. From what I understand, glass mesh is what the high end filters use. A Glass mesh will screen out a smaller micron of particulate than a fleece screen. I have always been a WIX fan...Oil and Air

Although I've heard this many times over..here is an example of a Mahle rebranded in a Wix box..

I know, not good enough....Close enough that it ain't just an urban myth...

You are right mate- I saw that too. But here is why I really believe you. Mahle is an OEM manufacturer, i.e. they will put other peoples name on it. However, I would not buy WIX, the standard that an OEM demands is infinitely more stringent than aftermarket parts suppliers. Why? because a crappy air filter can cost them a $15,000 engine. Wix on the other hand will simple return the money you paid for a bad one. I used to supply an OEM (electronics) you would not believe how strict they are. Thats why aftermarket parts only last a fraction of time as original parts, sometimes made by the same folks.

Now you too owe me some technical advise. I dont forget favors.

I'm not sure if I follow your rant mate..seemed all over the place..at any rate we all have our opinions based on personal experiences or what we think we may know..your's being your's does me no favors....I'll continue buying the top quality filters from WIX and leave it at that.

No tears, hopefully you love British cars more than you do humour. You may have a point, the filters that say Wix on the box but are actually Mahle inside must be the real deal.

Yes humour, it woundnt be British otherwise. Jaguar is as British as they get. I have several Okie friends and thus I explain. So whats the big secret behind preferring the rebranded air filter to the original.

Yeah I hear you blokes like us country-western bumpkins out here..and that's a good thing...

RE: Filter Brand...Seriously, There isn't a nickel's or shilling's worth a difference between the two..Both are top quality and I would use either one..WIX is more common and easier to get at our local Auto stores..Mahle filters can be gotten, but mostly at the Dealerships, especially for the Benzs..And they are a little more pricier for that M Label....

So In all good spirit..I have a very good and sometimes warped sense of HUMOR..as long as I know you're in good FAVOR of the same

Cheeers and tallyho and all that rot...Mate

I hear you buddy.
Ok now I understand. They are charging more money for the Mahle which is WIX and its harder to get. My apologies I was looking at only from one store- rockauto. No wonder folks asked where to get it.

Alright someone has to tell you guys may as well be me; uall aint country, mostuall drive fancy cars like jaguars and live in big cities, just like Garth Brooks.

Y'ain't gonna believe this..But one time a few years ago..a Bison (American Buffalo) wandered up into our neighborhood full of MB's, Bimmers, Jags and Hummers and started to graze on the manicured lawns..he was actually an escapee from a nearby ranch that had a few head of them and he was really quite tame..kids loved him as he meandered through and looked for hand outs....Ugly bugger though.

Oh, and Toby Keith lives nearby me too.....I bumped into him one day at a local lawn and garden center...cool dude...(Moore, OK)

Amen Brother..I seen a scientific report once that K&N actually allows more dirt through than paper media types.....Stands to reason. More air through (which is their claim to fame) means larger openings in the filter media, means more dirt actually gets through.

Were bout's in the USA to you half reside?..Seems you'd make a good neighbor
