Hi Guys.

After almost a whole year of fantastic trouble-free motoring I've had my first issue today with my 2007 2.7 Diesel sport.

After a very slow commute home, I was literally 100yds from home and noticed steam coming from the bonnet. I pulled onto my driveway and immediately the 'Low Coolant Level' warning message and red light came on.

I thought that maybe the coolant level had just become very low over time ( I admit to not checking for a while) so topped it up and headed out to the local shop half a mile away.

When I pulled off the driveway I noticed that the coolant had been dumped over the driveway but as I'd just topped it up, thought I'd be OK. On the way back from the shop the warning light came on again.

If I top it up it's lasting no more than 10-15 mins before it's emptied out again. I topped her up and let the engine run while on the drive, then switched off and it was then I could hear it squirting out. I got the inspection lamp and have identified where it's leaking.

Is this a water pump failure? Is that the water pump on top of the engine?

I've sourced the leak and need some advice as to the engine part that seems to have failed. I've attached some photos showing where the coolant is squirting out.

I've done all sorts of work on cars before but am unfamiliar with the Jag as she's never required any attention.

I'd appreciate any advice.

The part identified with the arrow in the photos is the throttle body.

Have you checked the outlet pipe and hoses just below?

You may want to post in the UK forum as most of the members of this forum are from North America where Jaguar never sold a diesel variant.

 

Being that you have a diesel, you shouldn't have a throttle body. Diesels use an injection pump to control engine power output. What it looks like is leaking is the EGR coolant circuit. As the coolant heats up, the EGR circuit should shut off the flow of exhaust gases. It looks like somewhere in this circuit you have an issue.

Here is the valve.

The issue is probably within the valve itself or the rubber lines feeding it.

 

The 2.7 litre diesel unit has a throttle body, which is clearly shown in the photos in post 1.

The superseded part number is C2S51097. A photo is below.

 

Thanks for that, I now know what the 'part' is that seems to have sprung a leak.

Excuse my ignorance, but why does coolant flow through the throttle body?

 

To heat / cool it.
