Default BRG vs. BRG

Over the past couple of years, there had been a lot of discussion regarding the fact that the original Jaguar BRG from the 60s was much brighter than that of the F-Type.(certainly that's how my memory retained it)

Well here it is: 1965 Jaguar Mark II BRG (not to be confused with that of the lesser British Leyland cars)

The only difference is the metal flakes.

Here's an E-Type & an F-Type. Yes, same color. Agreed - only difference is the flakes...

Well I'll be . . . My mind's eye is probably remembering MGs and Triumphs, which definitely had a lighter shade. I know I've seen lighter E-Types too, but they were probably repaints w/ a non-OEM paint code.

With that lighting, they both looked almost black.

Note Jay's Stratus Gray for reference.

Yes, that's why I mentioned "The only difference is the metal flakes".

Unhungd, I can see in pictures that you are shamefully negligent in polishing your tail pipes.

I was saying how cool it was that a BRG E-Type is parked right next to my BRG F-Type and the fellow that owns that E-Type says, "Your car is not British Racing Green." I say, "What? Well what color is it?" He says, "I don't know, but British Racing Green doesn't have flecks in the paint." I inspect his paint closely and sure enough, solid green. So I'm surprised and sad and left wondering what color I really do have.

So I later get home and relook up my color. It is..."British Racing Green Metallic". So, technically, he is right. But only technically. And I think the flecks make it look much better anyways.

Having seen those two cars together that day I am impressed in how much the color is a match and works in both flat and metallic formulations. Love the base color on the older cars and just love the "mood changing metallic" on the F-Type. In shade its deep and thoughtful, in sun its sparkling and more playful. Almost Oz like.

It's amazing... I truly thought it had gotten far darker. The Jag people say there are about a dozen shades through the years, but it's obvious they took the time to match it. I truly thought it was far darker.... and the moodiness continues, because although the E looks greener in the sun in some shots, it looks blacker in the cloud covered shots, and I wonder if it's the rounder curves that catches the light that way?

Remember the Le Mans D-Type? It was black like vantablack. lol

I had a GREAT morning of catching the shades of BRG on mine... you may enjoy:

Great pics!! That shows how BRG really does "pop" in good light.

I love BRG.....and while I'm very happy with my Polaris over red car, I really, really like the green. It's honestly a bit refreshing to see it get some love here; it didn't on some other brand forums I've been a member of. Here's a car of mine that I restored;

...apologies in advance for the non-Jaguar pic.

Cheers,
Dave

Bumping an old thread.

Not all BRG are created the same, there are light and darker versions, even on classic British cars. Love the BRG on the F-Type, just not the excessive metallic flake.

I had this non-metallic BRG (Connaught Green) on a rare MINI WC50 edition (1 of 50 in the US)

Thumbs up

Indeed, sunny day vs. overcast day on my '07 xkr. The seller took pics in the shade and called it black in the sales ad...

No metallic in this paint.

BRG covers a wide range of colors from a foamy light green for Lola to a midnight green for BRM. In the case of Jaguar it was always a non-metallic paint. My favorite Jaguar green was Aspen Green which was metallic and just dark enough. But given my druthers, I would take the BRM version. The current Jag BRG leaves me cold.

Old post but the fellow was wrong; if Jaguar says your F type is British Racing Green then it is! ......doesn't mean it has to be the SAME BRG as they used previously.
