I have a chance to get a '94 Sovereign for very little money, ($400) so I'm more than likely going to pick it up ...I hesitated at first because of having no place to store it, but a pal of mine has offered to let me keep it in his yard till I get the goodies off - and from there, we'll take it to the crusher, I guess!
In the photos the seller sent over, the car looked pretty decent and has way less miles on it than my own '94 - the odometer is only showing 112,000km (69,000 miles) but when I saw the car yesterday, it looked like every one of those miles was earned the hard way!
It was pretty rough for a low mileage car and the idea of saving it would be pointless - even though according to the seller "it was running up until 3 weeks ago", it looked like a real dogs breakfast!
Some minor/not so minor annoyances, drivers door handle, pass door and front pass fender bashed, unpainted/unsanded bondo patch glopped on to left rear above the tail light, antenna and spare missing, tires cracked, trunk mouldy etc. started motor defunct/battery flat so we couldn't fire it up .. interior was pretty rough too.
Some good points - set of new injectors less than 6 months ago - new cap and wires, new FPR, good radiator, good condenser, good compressor, good AFM, good alternator, master cylinder and sphere, coolant header tank, headlights, that special '94 hose I've been looking for ...and no doubt a bunch of stuff I haven't thought about yet -
As the 94MY is somewhat idiosyncratic re: parts availability, I think this has to be a good buy for me. None of the wreckers around here have a '94 in their yards.
Much to my surprise the missus didn't freak out either! BONUS!!
Congratulations! That looks like a very sound purchase. Whatever parts you don't keep for yourself should be easy to sell on eBay or via the marketplace on this forum. You're sure to come out ahead on this deal. I'll have to start thinking of any parts I may need.... :-)
Hey Jim, took the intake off today, what a state it was in, hard to believe car could run with so much carbon on the TB butterfly! Got the unobtanium breather hose though, so happy bout that!
PO told me he'd just had new injectors, FPR and cap and wires etc installed because he was having a hard time getting it to idle smoothly - DUH!
I'll be avoiding whoever did his servicing, that's for sure!
Torx heads chewed up here and there, couldn't get the top rad mount off, will go back tomorrow and cut a slot in the messed up Torx ...hopefully they'll come out with the big screwdriver.
Other than that engine bay is very clean, all clips and ties still in place, nothing looks messed with other than the cam cover gasket is missing (!) and a boatload of not-very-well-adhering orange silicone sits in it's place [well not quite in it's place]...jeez! Some people!!
Lotsa good parts though, rad and condenser are the main reasons I went for it, they are both in excellent shape.
all the best, hopefully run into you guys over the summer
Removed the intake plumbing and throttle, iacv, radiator, condenser, and associated hoses/pressure switches, air pump, alternator, fuel rail, injectors, coil, ignition amplifier and crank position sensor so far.
Will probably do the compressor and the rest of the A/C system tomorrow.
Incidentally, even though both of my cars are 94MY, I'm running into some (undocumented) design changes ...
..one being in the a/c system, (both are factory R134A systems) where the low pressure switch is located in quite different places with different plumbing.
In the earlier vin# car (my daily), the low pressure switch is near the firewall, close to where the a/c pipes pass through the firewall. The switch screws into a 3-way block connection at that point.
In the later car, the connection block only has 2 hose connections, (basically a pass-through) -the low pressure switch (same part# btw) is located in front of the condenser near the grille and attached to the receiver drier line.
Anyway, the dismantling continues.
Tomorrow I'll remove the water pump/thermostat housing and a/c compressor - if I have time, I'll start on the manifolds.
Got the gas line fittings off, just as illustrated, they pull right off.
Radio, centre console blowers and both airbags, dash/binnacle removed in the last couple of days - today finished off by removing the heater/climate control system. Evaporator looks good.
I checked the operation of the blowers/flaps before I started dismantling and all working fine. Blowers were dusty inside, no sign of water ingress anywhere on this car.
Heater/AC unit removed - Heater is secured to firewall from inside engine compartment.
This car never ever threw a check engine light, even when it was running badly ...look what I found when I removed the binnacle !
Hi Larry
Again sorry for my ineptitude. these are the 3 fuel pressure regulators on or near the fuel rail, and the shifter housing itself or as much as you see fit to send. Thanks
I have all this Jerry, (I'll PM you later), the circular "regulators" are part of the fuel lines so come attached with the lines - the lines separate below the brake master cylinder
