i installed new front zimmermann rotors and ebc red pads,also replaced the front shocks with monroes,i am still thinking about going with bilstein,the monroes were sent to me on a warranty issue.

 

replaced upper chain piston tensioner,great results,all rattle is 95% gone

 

I went down the whole change-shocks-thing 3 years ago.
My Daimler 6 (3.2), which is pretty much the base model X300, somehow bent the shock (the rod that is on the piston - the thin end- and it would get stuck in a depressed position).
My mechanic replaced them with KYBs. It was bloody awful, crashing through potholes and ridges on the road - it felt like the whole front of the car was going to smash on every little join in the tarmac.
I rang him in panic and he fished the old shocks out of the rubbish. We sent them to a guy who luckily was Bilstein factory-trained. First time road they were too soft and it bounced along with almost no absorption of shocks. Almost induced sea sickness on one slightly undulating bit of road.
So I sent them back, he got them perfect second time, they are still magic-carpet. i have never regretted rebuilding the originals.

 

Finished the plumbing for the new oil catch tank setup - however the hose clamps still have not turned up.

 

vacum bled master cylinder,finally got the air out and a much better pedal feel,no more spongy feeling

That's nice looking tool. Can you explain the procedure. Do you still bleed at each brake end or just at master.

 

That's a nice looking clean engine bay. Is the air intake modified?

 

Where is that oil separator line going to? This is the best looking setup I've seen, I'm definitely interested to know the parts and filter setup you have. Gorgeous.

Well those are interesting, do plan to post a "how to" or other report on them once fully worked out?

They look very cool, and would be most ideal IMHO if they had a "lens" over them so they looked flush and uniformly visually filled the opening like OEM.

 

There is a lens over them, its just clear 5mm perspex, and they do fill the space - I'm assuming you mean the black bits on the end, which was just tape holding them in place whilst the glue set.

I still need to shape the edges a little (jig saw seemed to have a mind of its own) and they may still get "smoked" tint over the top, but at present unsure until the headlights and shiny bits are re-installed.

 

Ah gotcha, yeah the tape threw me. I see now.

what did I do today?..
well this weekend, I washed the XJR yesterday, drove it around all day on errands and family evening out.
Then today I had a magical drive with my son on empty country driving roads. about 80-90 miles round trip
I hit 170 km/h on an empty remote straight while he was reading a book in the passenger seat.
I turned the traction off on a gravel road and did some gentle fishtails up a twisty hill.
Then I got home and rinsed off the dust
All ready to go to work tomorrow.

vacum tool from harbor freight,resevoir cap is from my motive power bleeder,joined in the middle with adapter,i put the yellow vinyl tape,just to make sure of a sealed system.

 

Attended SNG Barratt's open day at Bridgenorth this morning. The drive there was awful with tremendous rain and surface water. Had a tour of the factory - they make huge numbers of parts off original tooling helping to keep our jaguars on the road. Swapped notes and tales with fellow enthusiasts, had a bacon butty and later lunch with them, and to repay the hospitality, ordered some new parts. A good day!
