Hi all!

As my engine is now 'sparkling' I want to sort my front subframe out as well. I was told upon purchase, that mine was a sport... It has the sports steerimg wheel and came on lattice rims. It also has the sportier seats (with the stiches going from left to right on the inner section).

This should point at a sports pack bit does that mean I have the sports pack shocks and springs? Can I determine it via numbers on the shocks/markings on the springs?

I think the seats you have are from a le-mans model

 

Doubt it... The seats are quite common on the 89 model...

So as it looks no sport seats... So probably normal suspension?

Or can this be determined via the VIN?

 

I should think the chassis no or letters should say it all. There must be someone on here who can interpret them

 

Getting a Heritage Certificate from JDHT might do the trick. It might show if sports suspension was installed. But there's nothing in the VIN that would show it

Was there some other stitching pattern?

I was under the impression that there were two seats: the earlier flat seats and the later contoured seats as seen in your pic.

In the USA, at least, the later contoured seat were standard issue for 1989 MY cars. I don't think it proves or even suggests anything additional.

Were they optional in other markets?



If your shocks are original and green, you probably have Sportspack...as green shocks was unique to Sports pack cars for quite awhile...even into the 90s. Lack of green shocks, however, proves nothing.

If you have a rear anti-roll bar then you have Sports Pack suspension. But lack of a rear ARB doesn't prove anything...as it wasn't fitted to all Sports Pack car for all years and all markets.

The le-mans had vertical panels and maybe other limited edition cars.

 

So, after taking the front shocks out it looks as if I don't habe the sports pack but more so the standard shocks. CAC9089 and from Boge. Means I hve the choice:

Do I take red Konis?
Do I take the drop in GAZ adjustables?
Do I take the standard ones?

Hmm, decissions...

+1 for Gaz adjustables. And if you're changing springs, Eibach ones are my choice.
